Brings to mind the awful scene where they need to repair SID, and launchingfrom NASA, and some guy with the worst accent ever talks pretending he is from the US, Texas??

Does Straker have to be played by an American actor? Why not a British actor putting on an American (Bostonian)accent? After all, if Hugh Laurie can get away with it...

I remember Straker saying he was from Boston in "The Psychobombs. "

All The Best,

BRIAN

Of course he can, with the right actor playing the role. Who's your British candidate?

I'm not sure which British actor would be an ideal candidate for the role of Straker. I know Ed Bishop was quite young when he played the part. I reckon any actor would have to be at least in his mid thirties (late twenties is just a wee bit too young for that kind of respnsibility, I think).

All The Best,

BRIAN

During the time that UFO was filmed, Ed Bishop was 36 - 38 years old.
So yes, mid/late 30's would be a good age for a new Straker.

Whoever they pick to play Straker, some people will not be happy. Could wejust have Sean Bean playing the part of Alec Freeman though? Please?

Rowan Atkinson?... would be better playing Paul Foster methinks! - Actually, he'd make an excellent alien! Sorry... I'll shut up now. :-)

Re: DOES STRAKER HAVE TO BE AMERICAN ACTOR?

Natalie Foster-3
No, his acting style is too light, you need someone who can play heavier roles. How about either Liam Neeson, or Martin Shaw for Straker?

Nat

Oh, yeah! I'd have a one night stand with THAT Alec! Woo-hoo! Since the movie is due out next year, hopefully they'll come up with a Straker beforetoo long. The suspense is killing me!!!

Okay. I think I've finally found the perfect guy - and its taken some searching. Someone who is an actor, (has done Shakespeare with the RSC - I think,) someone of the right age ( he's 40 ) handsome, and can do the 'desperation' that is needed.
Richard Armitage.
He's british, but you can't have everything. Take a look and tell me what you think?
Sean Bean and Richard Armitage, ....winning combination eh girls?
Louise!

Ah yes. A versatile actor - played the bloke who marries the Vicar of Dibley,
and a top MI5 operative in 'Spooks'. I believe he's been in some BBC period
dramas as well, but I avoid them like notifiable diseases.

Actually I always thought there was something a bit unnatural about his
performances in Spooks. He seemed a bit detached, somehow. Not quite
convincing. A bit wooden, if I'm brutally honest.

I think his predecessor as the male lead in Spooks, Rupert Penry-Jones, would
carry off the Straker role better.

But if the film does get made I suspect we'll see the Straker part delegated
to a much less prominent role than that of Foster.

Louise,
Wow! He's a honey! What lovely blue eyes! And he looks like he can do intense. Not a bad choice, perhaps. Should you let them know at the studio, so they can get him to read for the part? It certainly looks like they could use the help!
