My apologies for getting Arthur Dent mixed up with Ford Prefect. On the subject of "STAR TREK", has anyone bought the original series on Blu Ray? What's the quality like? Is "UFO" available on Blu Ray?

How about getting TANGERINE DREAM to do the music of the "UFO" film? I've just been listening to their 1979 "Force Majeure" album - very impressive!!

I my self is somewhat unhappy with the movie ST because they complety
change the time "again" It was ok but that leaves a lot of questions. Like
what happen to the Klingons? What will it do to the relations with the
Romulans since the Klingons were needed to cover there backs latter on. andof
course DS 9 battle.

They might change the time line or the content of the movie (SHADO).

I quite agree. I have always hated remakes. They never seem to get what
made the original a hit needed to STAY a part of the show! That said, I so
totally enjoyed the remake of Star Trek that I'm hopeful that UFO will havea
similar miracle. I know some ST fans hated the remake, but I'm a diehard
fan myself and I laughed and laughed! Gene would have loved it. So it could
happen again -- for UFO this time. We'll all find out one way or the other
anyway, won't we? In just about a year's time.

UFO in not yet available on Blu-ray disc anywhere, nor do I know of
any plans for it to be released anytime soon.

Let's face it, broadcast quality hardly ever is as good as DVD. I love to see films and TV programmes in high quality, but I'm not obsessive about it.It annoys me when I visit Blu ray DVD review forums and people start picking holes in the picture quality, sound, etc. Life's too short to be so picky - some people are never satisfied. I remember years ago someone tried an experiment at a hi-fi loudspeaker review. A critic was played a violin piece (while blindfolded) and was asked to compare the sound quality with an identical piece of music. Unknown to the critic, an actual violinist walked into the room and played his instrument. The critic said that the sound quality was not as good as the first piece (which was played through the hi-fi system).

Yes, in *theory* they could look great on Blu Ray. However, the big
reason the DVDs looked so good was due the talents and attention
given by those who did those film-to-video transfer. UFO has already
been remastered in HDTV and broadcast on TV in the USA, and the
results aren't as uniformly good. All of the episodes are
cropped to widescreen, the contrast/color isn't consistent
between episodes, the sound is an annoying 5.1 "surround" mix,
the reused (stock) footage is grainy, THE LONG SLEEP flashbacks
are not in sepia as they should be, the optical effects and
fadeouts don't hold up well in zoomed-in HDTV, and the widescreen
framing choices aren't as good as they could have been...
