Fw: [SHADO] Recasting Ed Straker

Brian Serridge
Wasn't William Peterson in "Manhunter"? If it's the bloke I'm thinking of, he looks too much like Richard Dreyfus who I've always considered a bit "weedy."

All The Best,

BRIAN

Has anyone considered either Mark Harmom (NCIS) or William Peterson in the role of Cmdr. Straker? I grant you, Harmon as an aloof, driven C.O. might be considered to be type-casting, but one never knows.

How about Straker as female? Lindsay Crouse, who played Maggie
Walsh on Buffy, can play a powerful, intelligent leader.

Definitely NOT!  I say keep the sexes of all characters the same.  While I didn't mind the new Battlestar Galactica for the most part, changing the gender of principal characters did rub me the wrong way.

Hi, Bruce,

"M" is now female, but she's also explicitly not the same character. She was introduced as a new person holding down the job of a beloved deceased previous "M." (In "The World Is Not Enough," we see her looking at a portrait of Bernard Lee as "M" in the Scottish "Backup Headquarters" of MI6.)

Now that the series has "ReBooted" with Daniel Craig's Bond, there was never a male "M."

I know they mentioned that she replaced the previous 'M', but I don't remember the portrait scene. I have to look for it the next time I watch it.

One has to look at what they did with Star Trek reboot. Yes, I enjoyed it.I cheered at the beauty shots of the Enterprise going to battle. But didthey have to make the hero a juvenile delinquent and bar brawler?? There was a video on youtube where someone took video from a WW2 movie having Hitler discuss his problems with the Star Trek movie and I am glad others feltthe same way. I mean not Hitler of course but the person who did the close captioning.

I never watched the new Battlestar Gallactia after the first episode. Justdidn’t like what I saw.

Personally, I want to see a hint of a script, see if they follow series, how they deviate, then worry if the actor can pull off the role.

Shado was an important part of my childhood, LOL
the Star trek movie was not Trek, but a parallel universe , ok, that is theonly way it works,
battlestar I watched most of it saw where it was going and wept out of the sheer stupidity
I am so afraid the same thing will happen to a remake

I liked the Star Trek movie - yes , the shots of the Enterprise were absolutely glorious and one would hope that the same sort of care goes into the effects in the UFO movie.
I personally quite liked Kirk as bar room brawler, - he did do a lot of fighting and womanising in the original series, but I can see how it would not appeal to many. Let's just hope the UFO director doesn't make Straker a mysogynist alcoholic!
I like the idea of Ed Harris!

Also- Just watched Sound of Silence.... Susan says; 'Maybe it's a party of Sioux... you know..Indians' and then goes Woooo .. So very childish.... definitely a throwback Cowboys and Indians games from when she was younger!
We used to do that a lot here! Could even buy cowboy outfits!

Womanizer yes, Bar room brawler?? Remember the episode The Trouble With Tribbles, he is taking his people to task for starting the fight? Bar room brawler?? I forget the exact quote in the movie what Pike calls him, but you get the idea.

Just imagine they made Straker a drunk when not on duty.

Re: Recasting Ed Straker

Well, maybe not a barroom brawler, but he was always up for a fight.. any excuse to get his chest on show!! ( as with Paul FOster!) Straker as a drunk? no, but I could seee him as a drug addict - nothing too serious, - a bit like Sherlock Holmes! The same sort of mentality in a way? Brilliant strategists both of them. And Dr Watson/Alec Freeman?

Like James Spader in _ The Watcher_? He played a former
F.B.I. agent who is involved in tracking down a serial killer
and has a drug habit. It's a very serious role and a good
little movie.
