Knowing what a state people have got into at the mere thought of Gabrielle Drake, and knowing that people have got into more than a state at the thought of Au Pair Girls, I thought I'd let people know that the aforementioned film is released on DVD shortly. I had heard that Au Pair Girls was coming out on DVD. I have a tape of it
made from when it was shown here in the State on cable but it is a couple of minutes short of the full 86 minutes of the original running time as relessed in England. I also have gotten from a friend in Canada a tape of it as shown on their BRAVO cable channel. This only has one commerical interuption in it about halfway through the film. It seems to be a bit long that the other tape containing for of Richard O' Sullivan's daydream of giving Gabrielle's character Randi a massage than the other tape but not the whole scene saddly. Perhaps it will be on the DVD version and perhaps they will put out a VHS version in NTSC as well as PAL. Since we are talking about Gabrielle, I would like to mention I just got a letter from here sent from France two weeks ago. She and her husband are well and safe which is a relief to me as I was afraid they may have been in New York when everything happen. Best wishes to all, James Killian |

My fiance's brother in law's parents and brother live in NY, only about 2 miles from the disaster site. Thankfully, they called within an hour of the tragedy and said they were OK, and were moving in with some friends in New Jersey for a while. Gene |

Thanks for letting us know this, I was thrilled to see that kit for sale and immediately sent an order out plus an order for the new released Mobile and Skydiver kits. I'll let you know how long it takes to arrive. I may have to order another moonbase kit, one to build and one to stash away! > > >Your use of Yahoo! I went ahead and ordered from Amazon UK as i have ordered a bunch of stuff from them before, including Babylon 5 books originally only available in the UK. (The Jane Killick and Andy Lane books btw, I loved them!) So they have me on file. I'll have to start ordering from Blackstar though, as I want to start building up a collection of R2 DVD's since UFO will be released there and I'm hearing raves about the Captain Scarlet set. If A&E releases UFO as well I'll probably buy it, especially if it's priced like the Space 1999 disks. Under $20 per six episode set from DeepDiscountDVD.com is incredable for those and the Thunderbirds disks even if the quality is below the UK release. I think (And I don't want to start a thread here on this) that there is something different to like and dislike about each of these releases but for the consumer (With a region free player) the UK disks seem to pack more bang for the buck. Still the A&E disks are priced so well it makes me dizzy thinking about those $100 Laserdisks on EBAY just a few short years ago! I also have the feeling that's it's time to jump on these releases. Will these go out of print like the laserdisks did? Will people be paying hundred's of dollars for them 10 years down the road? Maybe when my children start college??? Or is the market and marketing for these different than the laserdisks were? Also, I've noticed my mail is starting to return to normal here in New York so if you ordered or want Spacecon or other Space 1999 convention video from me I can probably mail them out with confidence now. If interested follow the directions on the link and don't send any payment until I tell you your tapes are ready. http://www.space1999.net/catacombs/main/images/cons/phil/videophil.html At 09:35 AM 9/23/01 -0700, you wrote: > >--- Phil Merkel wrote: > > > > > > They won't let me order it! Speaking of the Anderson DVD releases, as Phil was just now - anyone got the Captain Scarlet DVDs yet? I notice that they are "introduced by Captain Blue" - did Ed Bishop record a special introduction for the DVD release? James |

I took a peek at Phil's Spacecom/Space 1999 and
question popped into my mind which has been bugging me...I bought the A&E DVDs of Space:1999 and I noticed that in the title sequence, the scene in which Barry Morse receives his credit, he bends down and peers into some clear globe. But on the DVDs, that shot is completely gone and the credit appears on a planetary space shot. Why was this changed? Does anyone know? ===== "I'll give you a dollar if you eat this collie." -- Martin Sheen |

Barry didn't get a picture credit until later in the season of Space 1999. I think it started with the 5th epsiode??? Here is the info from the brilliant Catacombs of the Moon website http://www.space1999.net/catacombs/main/pguide/up10.html "First is the caption "also starring Barry Morse". For the first four episodes ("Breakaway", "Matter Of Life And Death", "Black Sun" and "Ring Around The Moon"), this appears over a space scene. The large thin crescent of the Moon moves into the picture from left, with a smaller world appearing as a thin crescent beyond. The credit appears top right, and to the bottom right is a bright red star or nebula. For the remaining episodes of the series, we see Victor moving into view from left, looking at the out of focus crystal ball-like transparent instrument sphere in the foreground." And to pull it a little more OT, was the title sequence of UFO ever changed over the course of the 26 episodes? |

On the Japanese issued laser discs, Ed Bishop's voice is used in the introduction of some of the Captain Scarlet episodes. I don't have the DVDs yet, but I assume the beginning narrative with Ed's voice is the same as the DVDs and when the series originally aired. Ron |

However the 'introduced by Captain Blue' text is quite prominent so I wonder if this is something else? Well, I should be able to find out tomorrow. I'll let you know! James |

Well, I just received the Scarlet-DVDs (which are very well done IMO) and on the bonus DVD is not only a 56 minute documentary, there are also alternative opening credits. Here is some of the writing before the different credits were shown: -------> There are four different opening credit sequences. The first (used only on the episode "The Mysterons") acts as a quick introduction to events. The second describes the Mysterons and their unique powers. The third describes how Captain Scarlet is different from a normal man. The final introduction has no narration apart from a warning at the end from Colonel White that Captain Scarlet is indestructible. Ed Bishop, the voice of Captain Blue, supplied the voice over for the first three introductions, while the 'warning' introduction was voiced by Donald Gray. In Japan, the opening titles were reworked to show action sequences from the series and this was backed by a group of Japanese children singing an upbeat song. <------- And you have to see that horrible japanese opening title to believe it :-) I took a look in the Chris Drake book of Captain Scarlet and found this about the opening sequences: --------> Early versions of this sequence were mainly silent, whilst the majority featured an introductory voice-over by Ed Bishop. <-------- Hm. I checked the DVD and my video versions but although I thought to remember that some of the episodes were without a voice-over I couldn't find any of these (at least in the first ones). But maybe it was only the end title which were recorded in two versions, with and without singing. Have to check all DVD and video titles but for this is no easy task I will do it only if someone is really interested :-) But one's for sure: Ed Bishop didn't the narration just for the DVD release (except for the documentary). And sorry, Marc, for being a little bit off topic :-) CU Christian |
