Hi All,
During the first episode, it's implied that Straker is the only survivor from the Rolls attacked by the UFO. This is compounded in "The Cat With Ten Lives", when Straker relives the memory - and we see him arguing with a manwho should have been killed in a gory fireball! Can anyone explain this? Regards Jim So, simple question, why wasn't Henderson killed in the fireball , Henderson and another fellow are in a Roll |
Maybe he was thrown clear of the wrckage, same as Straker. I remember the British government official character was killed, though.

General Henderson was supposed to be incharge of Shado, but due to his injuries from the accident, he was unable to do so, so that fell to his subordinate Straker. Since the US was putting in the majority of the money, they wanted the American colonel to be in charge too.

"Confetti Check A-OK" is the best source to see how Straker became leader of SHADO. It seems General Henderson was first in line but he was badly injured in the crash in the first episode and unfit to attend. Straker was sentin his place and his comments to the committee led to them recommending him for the job, even though he had told them Henderson was "the obvious choice." Henderson took this all very well and told Straker he would be too old by the time SHADO would become operational. The irony is that after sucha warm start Straker and Henderson were then at odds almost all the time once SHADO was in action.
As regards Henderson's fate in the first episode, it was never mentioned onscreen whether he survived the crash but the implication is he did as there is mention of the British minister dying but not him. Apparently a different actor and character was going to be used to represent the head of SHADO in "Conflict" but Henderson and actor Grant Taylor were brought back. Later "Confetti Check A-OK" tidied up what had happened to Henderson. In confetti check A OK Henderson has Straker give a briefing to world leaders because Henderson is recovering from his injuries(presumably in the UFO attack on the limo) Straker is so eloquent in arguing for SHADO that he gets the job. He is named by the world leaders, despite his own recommendationand the general assumption, that Henderson would get the job. Straker still haqs to answer to Henderson in another episode involving booby trapped space junk, and Henderson is a very difficult man to please.--- In [hidden email], dave stone <stone8435@...> wrote:
