> Marc (a bit worried about a lack of UFO fans at this event) Hi Marc, I wish I could join this event (it would be great to meet you and some other UFO fans personally for the first time), but sadly Austria is a little bit out of range (I need to misuse a SHADO transporter for this but for I'm not in command... :-) I can only hope somebody will make some videos or sound recordings... Instead I will enjoy Ray Harryhausen tomorrow evening because he will be in Vienna and will talk to the audience about 1 1/2 hours before EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS will be shown (another great UFO movie)! But now to my subject: the British magazin TV ZONE printed a special issue titled "Gerry Anderson Special". It contains a lot of stuff from Gerry (I count 51 pages) about all his series and the new CAPTAIN SCARLET/THUNDERBIRDS with a lot of large pictures, sometimes one photo on two pages! UFO is presented on six pages. According to the mag the best episode is "A Question of Priorities", the worst is "Close-Up". Anderson talks about the new CAPTAIN SCARLET and says: "I think there will be plenty of opportunity for further remakes." Quote from the mag: 'Including perhaps UFO? Last year the newspapers reported that the classic alien attack saga had done so well on DVD in Britain and America that owners Carlton were considering an updated version. Anderson shrugs. "Well, it's news to me, I know of no film that's based on UFO being made."' On page 98 is a short article which states: 'UFO has, reportedly, done so well on DVD that a remake is in the works for American television.' Well, like Straker said: "Things are not always what they seem, Mr Foster." I think I'll scan some pages and will send it to the files section :-) Christian |

Well, if Shawn's video recording of the interview turns out, we could create a DVD-R of the interview and send it out to interested fans. I've finally had to break down and learn how to create a DVD, because I'm planning on showing some clips during the interview on the meeting room's DVD/video setup. I think I've rented (or purchased) every film that Antonia has ever appeared in, although often her parts are barely noticeable. The only substantial parts for Antonia in films seems to be THE BOY FRIEND, PERCY, and MAHLER. Unless someone knows of something else? Antonia's big claim to fame seems to be in theatrical musicals, but unfortunately, there are no clips to show from these. The last one she appeared in was "Mail" in 1988. Here are some photos from that: http://www.jrockingr.com/mail_scrapbook.htm After that, she's focused on raising her kids. Marc |

For the San Diego Comic Con, we will probably mostly have people who were planning on going to the comic con anyway. Not the hard-core UFO fans, but UFO fans nevertheless... By the way, over the weekend I finished compiling the clips that we might (or might not) show during the Antonia interview. I made a nice compilation clip of Antonia's best scenes from UFO, and my wife and I debated on where to cut the strip-tease sequence from "Percy"! Marc |

Hi all,
By the way, since people sometimes want to know about UFO cast members appearances in other films and TV series, I should probably report here what I've learned by watching all the movies on Antonia Ellis' bio: * Casino Royale -- supposedly she's in this movie as a dancer. Well, I couldn't find her in this movie. There is a sequence with several women dancing, but you can't really make out their faces, so I assume she must be in this scene. * Chitty Chitty Bang Bang -- supposedly she's a double for the lead actress during the dancing sequences. I couldn't find any sequence where this was obvious though. * Twinsanity aka Goodbye Gemini -- you can spot her for just a second in the background of a party scene, but that's it. Alexis Kanner and Mike Pratt have a sizeable roles though. * Percy -- she's in this for several minutes as a stripper who does a strip-tease for a patient in a hospital. She also talks a bit in a subsequent scene in a bar. * The Boy Friend -- she has a major role in this, plus does some dance and singing sequences. She has a bigger part in this movie than any other film. * Mahler -- she's in this for a 5 minute sequence which is rather hard to describe (and according to Antonia, often cut from broadcasts). She's dressed up as a female Nazi-type in a bizzare Ken Russel silent-movie representation of Mahler converting from being Jewish to Catholic. * 10 -- she's part of the birthday party for Dudley Moore in the beginning of the movie. You can only really see/hear her for a few seconds when they are singing happy birthday. Marc |

We'll have some other goodies at San Diego, though - including some original Space: 1999 costumes on display in the booth courtesy of legendary modelmaker (Close Encounters, Star Trek films, just about every SF movie in the last 30 years) and collector Greg Jein. We might even make Greg sit and sign a few autographs at some point, if he's willing. I hope to see more UFO listmembers there! Stop by booth #816 and say hello. Anthony http://fabgearusa.com |

I'm watching an episode of "Yes Dear" on CBS right now and I believe the characters are going to The San Diego Comic Book convention!
I was half listening so I'm not 100% sure this early into the episode but they are going to a comic convention and it is in San Diego. West coasters might want to check it out to get in the mood if your going! : - ) > > SUNDAY 1:00-2:00 Joss Whedon: Serenity— > > This is the *one* thing I want to attend -- hopefully Antonia > will be busy signing autographs and I won't be needed for > anything during this time... > Marc Go for it Marc! But no Ray Bradbury???? |

Hi all,
I just got the new 2nd volume of the Thunderbirds TV series soundtrack from Silva Screen, and I noticed 2 tracks that were later reused for UFO: * the "Dalotek Affair" cha-cha that's heard when Foster and Freeman are in the restaurant * tense music heard which I think is either heard in MINDBENDER or THE SOUND OF SILENCE... (?) Anyway, I'm off to San Diego tomorrow, although I'll still have email access. I hope to meet some of you there! Marc |

Hi all,
I also just got the new MGM "Thunderbirds 6" movie soundtrack CD -- this has one track of interest to UFO fans... at the beginning of the episode COURT MARTIAL, Straker picks up a tiny radio and turns up the volume. The music that was playing on the radio is heard in it's full glory on this CD! For those of you who already have the fan-produced Thunderbirds movie soundtrack CD, this new CD has about 2 tracks that's I've never heard before. BTW, I purchased both of these CDs at: http://buysoundtrax.com/ Marc |

Hi Marc, yes, the cue on track 23 (Coralville Surprise/The Bank Job) is used in MINDBENDER, when Beaver James is waiting next to the elevator before he catches Colonel Lake. And thanks for pointing my nose to the THUNDERBIRD 6 soundtrack! I've ordered it at once with Screen Archives Entertainment: http://www.screenarchives.com > Anyway, I'm off to San Diego tomorrow I envy you for this, Marc. I hope it will be a full success! Give my regards to Antonia from an Austrian UFO fan! Oh, stop it! I'm not that important to be mentioned :-) Anyway, enjoy it! (And keep us informed :-) Christian |
