G'day Bryan
Thank you for the welcome, its nice to see a group dedicated the UFO, I was hoping that when I went searching I would find one :) UFO was so far far ahead of its time, that I think it was its own worst ememy meaning that it might have lasted longer had it been more like the other gerry anderson shows, I am not complaining, its that very thing that made UFO so special but looking back it really was not a kids show though it was aimed at kids. As a kid I loved all the hardware but never really appreciated the show fully till I was an adult and then it was, WOW!!!!!!!!! I knew that the show was so advanced. Straight after came 1999 which I loved as a kid but found boring (sorry to any fans) as an adult, UFO on the other hand for me at least was appreciated more. Then I became Straker LOL LOL well you have to make the most of life right, its too short to not do exactly what you want LOL. Thanks again Bryan and I am glad to be here. G'day Ed
I was also a very young child when UFO came out. I remembered the opening with Ayshae and her sashay, the one shot missiles, and the down the shute to pilot the Interceptors. The rest was a blank because I was only 8 when the show was on WDSU Channel 6 in New Orleans and it came on at 3am. I am an insomniac and my mom would see the light shining under my bedroom door. She would open it and scold me if I was still awake. When I was 42 I was shopping at Barnes and Noble and found the first set for 80.00 American dollars. I ate noodles for a few days so I could buy the first set. Then I saved for the second set. If the show had not flashed 1980 several times then it could still be shown without it being an anachronism(I think). Same thing with Space 1999. Year 2 should not have had the Dr. Russell timeline. It was funny because Dragon's Domain would take place after Metamorph. oh well. Does "cobber" in Austrailia mean friend or little buddy? Hello again Bryan, yes cobber means friend or mate but it is kind out out dated now, not many people say it. Thats not to say that it wont be heard.

Hi all,
The Fanderson convention is taking place this weekend, and I was wondering if we have any early convention reports from a UFO fans point of view? Marc |
Hi Marc and all,
The con was very enjoyable, professionally organised and conducted (as always with Fanderson events); many thanks to the large number of people putting in many unpaid hours of work, without which such a great event would not be possible. Fanderson chair Chris Bentley paid tribute to Ed Bishop and Michael Billington when opening the event; and 'UFO' director Alan Perry followed with some very moving comments about the loss of these two great men, saying how though they may be gone, they are not forgotten. Amen to that. The 'UFO' episode 'Reflections In The Water' was shown in the main convention hall on Saturday, as a tribute to Ed, Mike and also director David Tomblin, since they have all passed away recently. 'UFO' guest artist Shane Rimmer was unable to attend, as he was taken into hospital recently. 'Get well soon ' cards were available for signing by convention attendees, which will be sent to Shane. |
