We took a different perspective on this Mark. Pinewood is an active studio
that produces major movies and, as such, is likely not to want photos circulating around. Charlie and I just felt privileged to be allowed to tour the studio and were not offended in any way by not being allowed to take pictures on the lot. I am sure that they have their reasons and aside from a few pics of the guests at the theatre and at Heatherden Hall (which is used publicly as a wedding and meeting venue), we respected their "no photograph" request. Believe me, it is worth the trip to go see the studio in person if you can manage it! At no time did we feel that Pinewood or Fanderson members were making this request because of a superior or mistrustful attitude. Now if we had managed to locate those underground SHADO facilities, I definitely would have tried to get a few photos of that! :-) Lorraine -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]]On Behalf Of Mark Davies Sent: Monday, October 08, 2007 6:03 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [SHADO] HD21 Report >Lorraine Meyer has sent me her detailed HD21 >report, and you can read it here: http://ufoseries.com/conventions/hd21-report.html >Thanks Lorraine for taking the time to do this! >Marc I enjoyed reading this report as well, excellent.Timelash is my favourite episode. Hi all,
With respect to photography on the backlot of Pinewood being barred. I was a photographer on the photocall at Pinewood for The Spy Who Loved Me. So far so good......I was then shown the newly built 007 stage with the set for the interior of the supertanker that swallows the US and Russian submarines. I was on the walkway high above the set where the shootout takes place and where Bond attacks the control centre. I was told I was not allowed to take any photographs and to keep my camera in the bag!!!!!!!! Regards Howard |

But the fact remains,it is anchronistic for the studio itself to prevent a small group of people on a very rare occasion, who have paid a lot of money to visit the site, only then to unreasonably, and it has to be said rather pettily, order and restrict them. No one is suggesting crawling all over the studio, going wherever you feel like ,snapping like mad.But clearly there was never any danger of that occuring. As I suggested a modest number of photos under the supervison of one of the event organiser's limited only to the areas of the tour, could not possibly have caused any harm. It does sound like a blanket policy, without much consideration given to individual circumstances. Mark |

It also would put a great deal of responsibility on the Fanderson organizers to supervise everyone. I would have loved to have been able to take a few photos of J/K stages, "Harville Hospital" and even the water tower but, again, I respect that they (Pinewood studios) must have their reasons for such restrictions. I am glad that you clarified that you weren't including Fanderson in your criticism. I also realize that it is difficult, if not impossible, for some people to attend such events for various reasons and I don't deny that it would be wonderful if they could see the pictures of the sites on the studio tour. Perhaps the best thing would be for one person or organization such as Fanderson to try to get permission to take photos of these sites and clear them with Pinewood security and post them. Sounds like a lot of effort though. Aside from some of the structures, I have to stress that the excitement of the tour came from actually walking the streets and being there. A picture of Goldfinger Avenue would be ok but it just isn't the same. Lorraine |
Hi all, just wondering what people's favourite episodes of UFO are. I've noticed a few comments lately from folks about how they found this or that episode a bit slow or dull or disappointing when rewatching the series on DVD. But what ones do people like the best?
For me, personally, I think the last eight episodes with Ginny Lake are stunningly good, on the whole, and I also think a couple of the earlier ones were very strong as well. I'd probably say my top 5 are: 1. Timelash. 2. Mindbender. 3. The Long Sleep. 4. Reflections in the Water. 5. Kill Straker. I'm also fond of A Question of Priorities, Sub-smash, Psychobombs and Cat With Ten Lives, when I'm in the mood. But my top five are the ones that are always pretty cool viewing. How about you? Hi Harry,
I've said it a few times before, but I actually prefer most of the earlier production episodes (although not all). I like the more ascetic, austere, pragmatic and more typically 'Andersonesque' approach, where the concentration is more on the craft, technicalities. I've asked myself a few times why this would be, and I suppose it could be that when I was young I only ever seemed to see the earlier production episodes, and was bought up on Thunderbords and Captain Scarlet. When I finally saw the (and in my opinion) later more wacky episodes, it was quite a surprise. Of course, I love them all, warts and all. I guess UFO is imprinted in my DNA by now - I know all the episodes practically word for word, scene for scene, but never ever get bored of it. One thing I would say, is that on reading the scripts, some of the episodes that suffer in presentation do so as some of the more poignent and crucial points were left on the cutting room floor. Reading the scripts really makes me wonder and wish at what could have been... They are certainly more "watchable" after having seen them over and over and over again... In my UFO Series Guide, I give each episode my own "grade", which pretty much reveals my favorites and least favorites. The ones which I gave the best grade ("A") to are: * CONFLICT * A QUESTION OF PRIORITIES * KILL STRAKER! * SUB-SMASH * THE CAT WITH TEN LIVES * DESTRUCTION * TIMELASH * MINDBENDER * THE LONG SLEEP That's 9 episodes though... I suppose if I were to narrow it down to 5, it would be: 1. A QUESTION OF PRIORITIES 2. TIMELASH 3. MINDBENDER 4. THE LONG SLEEP 5. THE CAT WITH TEN LIVES Marc |

Hi, everyone. I'm new here, and this seems like a perfect way to
introduce myself. Here are my top 5 favorites: 1. Mindbender 2. Timelash 3, 4, 5 (no particular order). Kill Straker!, A Question of Priorities, Sub-Smash (even though I have to admit that there are just so many problems with that episode). The first 2 are very close in my mind. Even though I think I probably watch Timelash more, I like Mindbender better because there's more thinking. Timelash is more of an action episode. Timelash was the episode that really got me into the series (which I only discovered 2 summers ago). >Alpharaptor --- In [hidden email], zerg harry <zergharry@...> wrote: > > Hi all, just wondering what people's favourite episodes of UFO are. Nice to see some love for "E.S.P" and "The Responsibility Seat" around here!
I may not have them as top fivers, but I've always felt Responsibility Seat is a hugely entertaining episode (and proof that the characters on screen don't have to be laughing or over-acting for a scene to be funny...especially when Freeman and Ford have that great scene together. Freeman: "What do you think?" Ford: "It's a tough decision." Freeman: "Thanks!"). And E.S.P, while low key compared to the pace of the Pinewood eps, is the precursor to them, because it has a human who is not only controlled by the aliens, but is also enhanced with a "power", in this case the ability to predict the future. Before long people with super-human strength or the ability to jump time would follow, not to mention eps about the aliens' power to induce halluciantions, raise the dead and possess animals. Z. I really liked "Identified" the best. Actually, I don't think there was a
really bad episode in the entire show. Wendy ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

You could have easily ignored my comments or been critical of a lone voice, expressing dis-satisfaction of an event I did'nt even attend. I doubt whether they have caused ripples to the extent that would prevent future events like HD21 taking place.I can certainly appreciate why the day was a success and enjoyed by everyone concerned. The aim,as you have perhaps highlighted is to consider how such events could be improved. With this in mind, it is as well to appreciate, that Pinewood's very existence depends on the Public interest and response to the product it is so instrumental in helping to create. And in that context a more open and engaging attitude towards ordinary people who admire its place within the entertainment industry (and that includes me) will certainly do it no harm at all. May there be many more HD21's Mark |
