Hi all,
Last weekend was Fanderson's HD21 event. Anyone here have anything to report about the UFO content of the day? So far I have heard that they showed TIMELASH in high definition, and that it was cropped to a 16:9 aspect ratio. Also I have heard that Gerry Anderson continues to tell people that a new version of UFO is in the works (although he has been saying that for years now, and so far there has been nothing to show for it) Anyone else? Hi Marc,
I went & was impressed by the quality of the restoration. With the 4X3 episodes converted to 16X9, they had to come to a compromise with the on screen credit captions. So instead of the credits running at the bottom of Timelash, they now run across the actors face where before it was a little lower. I still think a 4X3 programme should be left as 4X3 & for HD these series should be curtained (two black bars on each side to fill out the 16X9 space). When watching Timelash on a giant screen, I noticed something I had never observed before. When General Henderson, Dr Jackson & Foster are talking over Striker in bed, a fly lands on Henderson's coat, sits for a while & then flies away as he moves. I know its a dumb observation, but hey...dirty hosptials still exist in the future! I also met Paolo Malaguti, a real nice guy. I was pleased he was there, as I could personally show him part of the backlot of the studio. Pinewood still has the giant chess pieces that can be seen in the buggy chase of Timelash. They are stored in a fenced off area of the studio. I can upload some pics if you would like to see them. I found the chess pieces earlier in the month when I was visiting a friend at Pinewood. I didn't realise they were in UFO until we watched Timelash that very same day! Hi all,
By the way, although I don't have any official policy on dealing with these sorts of things, I have decided to remove James Williams from the group, and also deleted a couple of his messages from the archive where he writes as if he is Ed Bishop's son-in-law. Marc (still baffled by all of this) |

Thanks for the comments! I also saw a comment on the Fanderson group from someone who was impressed overall, but thought that the night scenes of the UFO chasing Straker's car looked bad. > With the 4X3 episodes converted to 16X9, they had to come to a > compromise with the on screen credit captions. So instead of the > credits running at the bottom of Timelash, they now run across the actors Hmm, on the HDTV version of MINDBENDER that someone recorded for me, the scenes with credits were simply "squished" so that the entire 4:3 frame was elongated to 16:9, making everything look too fat. Repositioning the credits would be an improvement, but would require more work during the restoration process. Marc |

Yes, you can see this on the DVD's as well, although the fly is smaller than some of the compression artifacts in the video! This is where Henderson, Foster, and Jackson are asking Colonel Lake if she can remember anything about what's happened. Marc |

We could have been disguised aliens! Just for the record, that type of impersonation on a fan list is a pretty lame thing to do. Some people get kicks out of tricking others; usually it's a sign of lack of character or feeling of actual self-worth. Paul |

Hi Jim,
At the HD21, how did the screened "The Metamorph" of Space:1999 look compared to "Mission of the Darians"? I didn't watch the Space 1999 screenings, I went on the UFO studio tour instead.
