In fact, in my stories, Straker has amassed quite a tidy fortune himself from all the movies he's starred in. *grin* He dips into it occasionally when Moonbase needs a new interceptor and such. It just stands to reason. Anyway, I have a hard time believing a workaholic like him would run his studio at a loss. What a waste of revenue that would be! It would be interesting to see how he handled people pitching ideas for films to him - I'm sure he would be very receptive - not. Maybe he would delegate that side of things. I imagine he would only be interested in movies along tried + trusted lines that made money, period. thomas > > > _________________________________________________________________ > STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* > http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail |
Hmm... some of the films pitched to Straker were pretty tame... think of the
Cornwall 'home movie' film shown to Straker in 'Reflections in the Water'... and he liked it! (or pretended too ;) ...I think he just said that 'cos he was plainly bored, wanted to keep some of the film execs happy, and had obviously had his mind busy with other things... I don't think the Cornwall flick would have done too well at the box office though... reminds me of some of the terrible old trailers shown before the major features in the old-style cinemas... Judging from some scenes from various episodes in and around the film studios, they seemed to major on period dramas... and also ones with big hands... ;) Griff -----Original Message----- From: teee_peee <[hidden email]> [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Thursday, January 02, 2003 11:54 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [SHADO] Re: HS finances --- In [hidden email], "Denise Felt" <neesierie@h...> wrote: > >sigourneysslave@f... > wrote: > Surely SHADO would welcome > >every additional penny that it can get into its coffers. Seriously, I would have thought SHADO would not have given two hoots about the other military communities bothering about profit and loss within the ranks of the alien fighters They always seemed a law unto themselves anywys, answerable to no one else (except, perhaps, the very highest echelons of the UN and the IAC). I wouldn't see Henderson complaining if SHADO had money coming in from filmic enterprises. Less demands on cash he would want for himself. Unless, that is, he had become so bitter that he resented Straker's success in any field; that would actually seem to accord with his behaviour in 'Conflict'. On the other hand, Henderson does still have a genuine respect for Straker. Certainly I think that the whole Henderson/Straker relationship was very complex and one that could have given a whole fertile field for a new series. > He dips into it > occasionally when Moonbase needs a new interceptor and such. Straker might not like it, but he still has sufficient military savvy to know when to knuckle under and get on with a task you resent and/or hate doing. Dave. |

Running SHADO is more than a full time job. So, too, would running a film studio. I always thought that SHADO would have a special department set up to run the studios, proposing papers for Straker to rubber stamp, producing quick summaries and briefings for him to read each day etc etc. Basically doing the donkey work in his name, whilst freeing him to run things 'downstairs'. I agree with Dave. I can't see Straker having much of anything to do with
the studios. Although I like the fanfiction prooving otherwise!! I just can't see Straker giving anything more than the barest minimum of his time or his attention to something as unimportant as the film industry when his talents are needed to save the world from invasion.... I suspect he rubber stamped alot. Mary Running SHADO is more than a full time job. So, too, would running a film studio.
