Re: Hey cuda....and so far she likes...

barracudawoman_2000
Thanks, April dancer.

I've viewed the first 10 eps of UFO..and I am still enjoying it very
much. I've really liked how some of the eps have ended, not at all
like one would expect but that is good.

For example, A Question of Priorities was poignant yet tragic and I
enjoyed the episode. I understand, looking forward, I will get more of
an insight into Commander Straker in Confetti Check A-OK...LOL. I'm
getting there.

I enjoyed the story and ending of The Square Triangle. The ending in
particular, with the woman standing at the gravestone and the way it
was shot..."AH!! She DID end up killing him!" Very good..

canonial inconsistency

In reply to this post by ~Agent April Dancer~

Hey guys;

Recently, I got some Space 1999 tapes as a gift and got all
re-interested in that show as a result. Going to their websites, I found
that they claim Moonbase Alpha was in the crater Plato. It's also been
claimed that Alpha was the continuation or buildup of UFO's moonbase, yet
our Moonbase has been stated as being in Riccioli, around 1300 miles
away..... so how could this be?

Hi Dave H,

I think I can answer that question without getting into tons of
detail. :) G & SA originally wanted to do a 2nd season of UFO but that
never happened. Instead, they came up with Space:1999 which is a
different series from UFO, not a continuation. UFO and S99 do share
some writers (I think directors), G&SA (well S99Y1 has G&SA) and that
wonderful Barry Gray score.

Similar production values but the series are not related from a story
perspective. Yeah, they both have a "moonbase" but not much in common
beyond that.

Uh, best to keep Space:1999 and UFO separate... each series has enough
of its own inconsistencies without trying to make them consistent with
each other!

And what is the source of the information that UFO's Moonbase is in
Riccioli? I don't recall that being mentioned in the series...

There have been attempts to integrate the time lines of ALL the Gerry
Anderson serieses into one consistent time line.

True, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea... :-)

I'm sure one would have to get real creative when explaining
why Captain Scarlet features a moon orbiting around the Earth,
when the moon had previously been blown out of the Earth's
orbit in 1999.

I think it was somehow inferred, from some minor detail somehow. I
remember asking about the location of Moonbase on the list years
ago .. just found a mail I sent to fab-ufo in 1998:

I asked this question in August, here are two replies I received:

You may be right about that....it's never mentioned on the show, I guess
I got the idea from numerous mentionings on the websites, from discussions
on this list, and discussions here about such things as books, magazines &
comics writen about UFO. Somehow, I also get the impression that it was
mentioned somewhere in the Miall books, although my copies dissappeared
years ago and I can't reread them to be sure.

I'll now retreat and flog myself for being so careless....

Didn't somebody hypothesise in the SIG fanzine that an artificial moon was created by fusing asteroids together? If not in the SIG fanzine, then possibly in Century 21, when a timeline for all the series was written. If a second moon was created, it was good going having it up and running, as it were, by the time of Captain Scarlet.

For what it's worth, I can't remember seeing anything mentioned in the Miall novelisations about the location of SHADO Moonbase. I last re-read the two books a couple of years ago and given that a specific location - ie Ricciolli - has been mentioned in previous postings, I don't recall something as distinctive as that name.
