http://www.buckrogers.demon.co.uk/temp/moonbase01.jpg Someone sent me a mesh (CGI) model of SHADO Moonbase for me to tidy up and make it suitable for the CGI program called Poser (see http://www.renderosity.com ). The images of Moonbase at the above 2 links, are renders of this model, with people added to give scale :: the man at its ?front door? is 6 feet 5 inches tall including his helmet. How much proportion should Moonbase be bigger or smaller than in these images? |

The Spheres ar large enough to house the moonbase control room and land the lunar module. I don't know how big they are to scale. Good question. Any chance of a picture of the figure by one of the spheres. Though
the figure does look to big but I could judge better in relation to a sphere. Regards, Barry |

New photo added to file section - with Alien standing outside a Dome Airlock
and a Moon Mobile on the landing pad outside the hanger. What do you think about the possible scale? Gordon. See the file at Shado Group LINK: http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/shado/vwp?.dir=/&.src=gr&.dnm=UFO+Shado+M oonBase+Size.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/shado/ls t%3f%26.dir=/%26.src=gr%26.view=t [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
Uhm, try again. According to my computer the link goes nowhere. It gets to Photos and then can't find the page.

Multiple-line links are always difficult, because people's email programs usually insert a line break after 72 characters (or so). Hopefully this one will work: http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/shado/vwp?.dir=/&.src=gr&.dnm=UFO+Shado+MoonBase+Size.jpg Marc |

From one extreme to the other! The first pics (w/the guy in the suit) the base was way too small, even compared to the inadequate size depicted in the show. The moonbase spheres looked to be only about twice as high as the person was. In the photo with the moonmobile; the base is very large. Picture the crew sitting in the cabin of the moonmobile, and then how a crowd of them would look standing next to the moonbase sphere. Using a CAD program makes this painfully obvious. In this photo, the base spheres look to be large enough to have 6 or 7 floors inside them. The show, I believe, suggests only one floor per sphere, (pay attention to the curvatures of the set walls and such, and I'm sure you'll eventually agree) with the exception of the sphere containing the interceptors ready room - that seems to have two floors. The problem with the show in general, is that none of these sizes seem to mesh properly - the windows in the base spheres suggest a size that is much too small. Interior scenes taking place in both the control/command sphere sets and interceptor's ready room sets back up this inadequate size. Look at the base from the outside, and certain features suggesting a much larger size are evident, like what appears to be vehicle garages and hangers, and a flat landing pad. But look at these features side by side, and it's like the show's model makers for the two different features were working out of touch with each other. These vehicle hangers appear made for midget vehicles with midget crews. The scale of the base is all botched up. In my personal opinion, the base would need to have 40 foot diameter spheres, with three floors in each, to be a viable long term living facility capable of housing the number of people needed, and performing all the operations suggested of such a base depicted by the show. This would give the base an overall square surface footprint of about 180 to 200 feet per each side. Just my humble O..... Dave H. |
