I'm here

Lieve
Hi!

Just checked the list of subscribers, only 14 of us so far. Marc, is it
wise to have the list of subscribers public? Even if only subscribers can
see the list of email addresses, all one needs to get it is sign on, get
it, sign off.

CU

Lieve

You do realize that the list of FAB-UFO subscribers has always been
public, don't you? All you had to do was send an "REVIEW FAB-UFO"
command...

But I just turned off the list of eGroups subscribers, as you've
requested... :-)

>So is this Egroups thing a temporary fix or SHADO's new home?

If FAB-UFO gets fixed, then this is temporary. If not, it's
permanent! Chuck Foster has every intention of fixing the
LISTS.PIPEX.COM computer, but I'm not sure how long this will take.

Of course I do, I used to get a list regularly. But on egroups/onelist it's
terribly tempting to go and look, it asks for it, it seems to invite people
to go look :-)

I don't know about egroups and the current set up (I should go and check
really at the settings of my Bocelli list) but with onelist (which is now
intergrated with egroups) one had the possibility of adding a whole list of
subscribers in one go, so one could sign on the entire subscribers group of
Fab-Ufo on there.

I'm pretty happy with egroups/onelist, never had any problems with it, I've
had a list there for over a year. The few lines of advertising at the
bottom isn't such a problem, I never scroll down past the sig of the sender
anyway. And it's free! It also has the advantage of being one of the major
places where lists on all kinds of subjects are, so we're likely to get a
few more subscriptions in from people who check onelist for a UFO group.

I'm curious - why call it SHADO rather than Fab-Ufo?

Anyway, thanks for the quick reaction, Marc.

Seems like I'm the only one who actually minds the advertising... :-)

In case this move was permanent, I wanted to give the group a good
name. FAB-UFO is kind of an odd name, and I thought "SHADO" would
make a bit more sense...

No, you're not alone; it drives me crazy. I don't join mailing lists to get
spam shoved down my throat, and I resent the wasted bandwidth. I understand
that you can bribe them to make it go away, though.

I'm not fond of egroups/onelist for a number of reasons, but in general
they seem to deliver what they promise, most of the time. (There have been
some very significant problems since the merger, however. Probably just
settling-in pains, but don't be surprised if there are interruptions in
service.)

Yes, on onelist you could pay a fee to eliminate the ads, but I no
longer see that offered on egroups. Perhaps this option was
eliminated as part of the merger between egroups & onelist?

And FAB-UFO appears to still be down... I don't recall it ever being
down this long...

It's still available; they just don't want to you know about it, so they
hide one tiny link to the info somewhere in their help section. See:
http://www.egroups.com/info/noads.html

I invited Mike Billington to join us, so maybe that will
make us 15?

Oops! I was trying to get back to the first of January and got all the
way back to the first of the group instead. My second screw up of the
year.

BUT
from 14 to 194 members in less than a year. Not bad :-)

(Maybe Mike Billington will still join and make us 195....)
