Hi all,
Here's a subject which comes up every year or two... The Invasion: UFO theme music. So far, I have yet to find a perfect quality recording of this music. However, I just got an email from someone who sent me an MP3 from the adult film "The Satisfiers of Alpha Blue", and wouldn't you know it, it's the Invasion:UFO theme music without the sound effects added to it! http://ufoseries.com/music/invasionUFO.mp3 Everyone speculates that this music was some library music (or written by Vangelis, which I seriously doubt), but nobody seems to know any specifics. Anyone here know? Marc |

I sound a lot like it could be written by Francis Monkman - a member of the
group Sky, and writer of the soundtrack to The Long Good Friday. >From: Marc Martin <[hidden email]> >Reply-To: [hidden email] >To: [hidden email] >Subject: [SHADO] Invasion: UFO theme music >Date: Sat, 30 Apr 2005 15:59:58 -0700 > >Hi all, > >Here's a subject which comes up every year or two... > >The Invasion: UFO theme music. > >So far, I have yet to find a perfect quality recording >of this music. I checked, and Francis Monkman *was* writing library music in the late 1970's. Given what I've read, there are a few possible albums, all of which have never been released on CD. I also found Francis Monkman's email address, so I emailed him to ask if he recognizes the music in that MP3. Based on what I've read, I'm thinking it might be his 1978 library music album "Energism", which was later released commericially. That would fit with the timeframe of Invasion:UFO and that adult movie, but I also heard that this music was used in a 70's Timex ad (?) Marc |

Hey, I guess I'm a good guesser, because I posted a query in a different group, and it was quickly confirmed that this track is indeed from the Energism album, and the track is titled "Dawn of an Era". So I'll be tracking that down... Marc |
Anyone know the manufacturer and model name of the tank toy Derek Meddings
used for the chassis and wheels/tracks? THANKS! Michael Blake |

Thanks, Steve...
Yeah, that's what I thought... the REMCO model. But, looking to buy one on eBay I see the wheel arrangements inside the track don't match and the pattern inside the wheel hub looks different?! I think the Tiger Joe may have been the standard for Thunderbirds models, but it looks like they may have switched to another chassis for UFO? Any definitive info out there? THANKS! I tried to do a bit more research this morning about Francis, but didnt
really have the time. If it does turn out to be him, then I'm glad I've proved some use! Me too - as someone who likes film and TV music, and likes the sub-genre of
library music, it's something I'll have to track down. Glad you sorted it! >From: Marc Martin <[hidden email]> >Reply-To: [hidden email] >To: [hidden email] >Subject: Re: [SHADO] Invasion: UFO theme music >Date: Sun, 01 May 2005 10:31:27 -0700 > > > Based on what I've read, I'm thinking it might be his 1978 library music > > album "Energism", which was later released commericially. > >Hey, I guess I'm a good guesser, because I posted a query in a different >group, and it was quickly confirmed that this track is indeed from >the Energism album, and the track is titled "Dawn of an Era". > >So I'll be tracking that down... > >Marc > > > >Yahoo! The music was releasee twice, as Marc said. The original library music LP
came out in 78, and the reissued commercial LP came out in 1980. Both are long since out of print. It seems that a lot of the tracks were used as library pieces in films and TV shows. I've not located any for sale yet... >From: [hidden email] >Reply-To: [hidden email] >To: [hidden email] >Subject: Re: [SHADO] Invasion: UFO theme music >Date: Sun, 1 May 2005 14:56:37 EDT > > >In a message dated 5/1/05 1:32:10 PM, [hidden email] writes: > > > > So I'll be tracking that down... > > >I didn't find the music, but here is a copy of the movie if anyone is >interested :0) Amy > >eBay item 6392038629 (Ends May-07-05 15:12:07 PDT) - INVASION UFO directed >by >Gerry Anderson > >Here is an Italian movie poster :0) >eBay item 7511748457 (Ends May-04-05 18:35:06 PDT) - INVASION UFO GERRY >ANDERSON TV SERIES orig 4sh ITALY >and another movie poster :0) >eBay item 7511748313 (Ends May-04-05 18:34:25 PDT) - INVASION UFO GERRY >ANDERSON TV SERIES RARE orig 2sh IT > > >[Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > >Yahoo! I've not located any for sale yet... Try musicstack.com -- there are several copies of this LP available, and I've already ordered one. Of course, once it arrives, the first step will be to transfer it to CD-R and MP3 (everything I listen to these days is on my computer or portable MP3 player) Marc |
