Is SHADO HQ's art collection worth a fortune.

Griff
Hi,

I saw this BBC article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11951396

The framed artwork "Mouth" in Commander Straker's 'life/office' is from a series by Tom Wesselmann, but was given a new layout and made very popular in the late 60's by I believe one of the originators of the Athena.

I believe the version in Commander Straker's office is derived from Wesselmann's Mouth No.4 or possibly No. 5.

Anyway, in this article Mouth No. 8, a 1966 oil painting of a scarlet-lipsticked mouth has just sold for $1.9m (£1.2m).

Is Commander Straker a budding art collector? I wonder what all the other art in SHADO HQ and who knows the upper Film Studio would be worth.

Mmm... maybe not much. All the other pieces of art shown around SHADO HQ were created by Keith Wilson - in 1969 Gerry Anderson and Keith Wilson formed a company together called Paris Designs, and attempted to sell Keith's work. Unfortunately, not one single piece was sold... oh well, maybe Doctor Jackson was right in his answer to Paul Foster in 'Court Martial', Ed Straker doesn't have that much of an artistic temperament after all. Mind you, age alone adds a value to just about anything, but today it's 2010, and UFO is from the 1980's so what would that do to value...

That's art for you!

Griff,
Some of the art was quite interesting, especially the metalwork.  And that large abstract in his HQ office caught my eye every time I watched the show! (As those who've read my stories will know!)  Kudos to Keith Wilson for his creativity.  Maybe with the new movie coming, they should try once more to sell those pieces?  I'd buy! *grin*
Yours,
Denise

Straker, somehow it's always about you.

Hi all.

For those who joined this discussion group in recent times, let me post
again the link to a specific page on the ISOSHADO website, related to the
two artworks by Joe Tilson displayed in various UFO episodes:
