Hi everyone, I just got back from LA a while ago so
here's my brief report to SHADO on the appearance of Jerry Anderson at the Virgin Megastore on Sunset Blvd. I made the drive from the most southwestern corner of the continental USA, Imperial Beach, CA... About 300 miles round-trip! I met briefly with Jerry and got my Carlton set 1 and 2 DVDs signed (I forgot my JttFSotS), I shook his hand and thanked him for the fine programmes over the years and I asked him one question; Is there any chance of more UFO? (and I mentioned that I knew about the other CGI projects in the works which he confirmed.) He said that there have been discussions about UFO but by the way he answered I could tell that there certainly is nothing even near the planning stage. Nothing is happening but it is not out of the question is the gist of it. He wasn't too talkative, perhaps it had been a long day, it was 7 pm LA time which I think is about 2 am London time which could've had an effect too. At least by asking, I let him know that there is some interest in more UFO, I even suggested having Ed Bishop in as the ranking General over SHADO. Hopefully if UFO DVDs keep flying off the shelves, that will send a message too. The Virgin store was completely sold out of the A&E UFO box set and apparently had been for some time. There were only a few Thunderbirds and one Capt. Scarlet title left and they were all gone by about an hour before Jerry's appearance. Jerry's appearance didn't get too much press and so there were only 30-40 people in line (I was 4th). I also snapped a few pictures, 4 of them are now in our Yahoo photos area. Shawn "GOT*SKY?" Great report!!
It's really too bad there wasn't a lot of people there - your right - there is hardly any advertising for this event. I am going to the New York one on Thursday and I had a question for you - Are there limitations on the autographs - i.e. number of autographs and what he signs? Did you have to buy something to get an autograph? I was hoping to bring a couple of posters and promo items but am not sure if he is signing non-DVD items. Thanks for the report KP --- In SHADO@y..., "sdkellysdaa" <sdkelly@s...> wrote: > Hi everyone, I just got back from LA a while ago so > here's my brief report to SHADO on the appearance of > Jerry Anderson at the Virgin Megastore on Sunset Blvd. > I made the drive from the most southwestern corner of > the continental USA, Imperial Beach, CA... You'd think that they would have stocked up on the Gerry Anderson DVDs... after all, it was advertised that he'd be autographing the DVDs, and instead they were sold out! Nobody mentioned anything but most people in line had only one or two items
and only about half of the items were even DVDs let alone UFO. Jerry's A&E "handlers" were occasionally handing out posters too but I didn't get one. I would have imagined that the occasional person with 3 or 4 items wouldn't have been a problem. I would also guess that this had a lot to do with the small turnout. If it had been a total mad house I'd imagine they would have imposed limits. At least it wasn't what some have done... first sig free, second sig $20, third sig $40 etc. Those really "P" me off even though I rarely have more than one item (often I have none and only want a handshake like with Ray Harryhausen a couple weeks ago). It's just in bad taste and not very 'fan friendly' IMHO. I'm still bummed out that I missed the shows at the Egyptian Theater. I heard form another fan in the sig line that the interview with Jerry was very lively and quite entertaining. Have fun in NY S |
