The references indicate they were Barnard Sports Cars, marketed by
Overton Challis Associates. That's all I can find, as I suspect the
company is long gone. Would be nice to know if anyone else knows more.

Tho not sure. They could be

1. were being used on one of the movies being filmed at the studio.

2. Used to get around the studio.

Either way. I'd love to have one. Just not in red..:)

Sorry for the delay in replying to this... I knew I had an email
about the cars, but I first had to resurrect my email program
and email archives (due to a recent computer crash).

I got an email from someone several years ago who found one of
these cars and had hoped to restore it to look like it appeared
in TIMELASH. He called it a "Tom Barnard Sports Car". He said
very few were made, and probably half of those that were made
were sent to the Monoco for the 1970 Grand Prix.

There was a 2-page article about these cars in an old issue
of TV21 or something... not UFO related, but they were the
same kind of cars.

Here is a photo of the article on the cars
used in TIMELASH:

(sorry, I don't have a scan of this)

Also, here is a photo of a car that someone
found several years and hoped to restore:

(I haven't heard any updates, so I assume
it hasn't been restored yet)

Wow, thanks Angelo! I didn't know those pages were on your site!

Re: A tiny bit OT

Pam McCaughey-2

For Xmas this year my hubby ordered me in the BBC miniseries Edward The Seventh - with Mike Billington playing the doomed Tsar Nicholas II of Russia - FABULOUS acting job!!!!! Mike was a much underrated actor who deserved more than he got in the industry, and it's funny how many times he played a Russian in his career.....the first time we see Mike as Nicholas he is young and has just assumed the throne after his father's early death. By the time we see him again, he has become a chain smoker (known from the historical record) surrounded by secret police, afraid of assassination, unsure of himself, and naive enough to fall under the ill-favoured spell of his cousin the Kaiser of Germany. Mike managed the transitions so seamlessly, so truthfully that I had to mentally applaud his work. I hope his son can watch Mike's work and realize how GOOD his father really was as an actor.
Pam the Canuck.

Pam, I believe I watched that series on PBS *many* years ago when
I was in high school. I even did an extra credit report on it for
history class. I wasn't that interested in the history at the time. I
was more interested in seeing Michael Billington in it. I thought his
performance as Czar Nicholas was very convincing as well and I agree
with your comments regarding his acting and his son.

The miniseries was well worth watching actually and I'd love to see
it again now that you have brought back old memories.

Nice to hear, since his acting in UFO was usually as wooden as an oak
tree.

I don't remember Edward The Seventh. It's many years since I watched The
Onedin Line; other than that I think I've only seen him in an episode of
The Professionals and the Bond film, apart from a non-speaking role in
The Prisoner.

Re: A tiny bit OT

Hi James - I take a gentler view of Mike's work. I think he was at the beginning to his career in UFO and he hadn't necessarily been expecting to get such a role perhaps. One has to say Sylvia Anderson was generous in offering it to him. But one has to start somewhere. Richard Burton was horribly wooden in The Robe and yet he got an Oscar nod for it! he may have been a stage actor but in films he took awhile to "find his groove". Lawrence Olivier very nearly LOST his job as Heathcliff in the original H'wood version of Wuthering Heights because he hadn't yet learned the more delicate nuances of acting for a camera instead of a live audience. IMO he was no worse than anyone else on UFO - thought he was very good
in Exposed in particular. Saw him recently in The Onedin Line - he got
a lot more to do than in UFO and did it all with conviction. You get
used to hearing 'Paul Foster' speak with a Northern accent!

Mike Billington did have a speaking role in THE PRISONER, but he
didn't say much (I think this was his first TV role?). Several
years ago, Andy Lovie was kind enough to send me clips of
many of Mike Billington's performances over the years -- I
think this might have been his "demo reel". This is probably
something I should encode and upload someday, although my
"to-do" list for website has grown so long it's scary... :-)
