Mark Davies' Alternative Ending ...

Some thoughts to spice the ending up ;

1 - Straker instructs Jackson to use the truth serum on Foster to get
a full debrief of his time with the Aliens = could this endanger
Foster's health ...???

2 - As Foster drives off in to the distance (sunset!) you hear a
brief fade in - fade out of the UFO in-flight noise + there is a
close up of Foster's profile with a glazed look in his eyes ... ie
leave it hanging / is there a problem / create some intrigue etc ?

3 - Foster drives off and the final scene is him entering + sitting
at a bar. Foster is seen lifting to his mouth a large glass of lime
(green) cordial ... (and cut!)

sounds more like one of those season ending cliffhangers they do now days tee
pee.
