Mobiles.

According to the UFO Annual (1970), the
Mobiles are held in 'secure' bases around
the world. Any idea where these would be
held, considering that they are so secret
that they don`t officially exist?

Where would you keep a top secret "Mobile" tank?

I don't know what base they would be kept - but it is much easier to "hide"
classified vehicles and technology "in plain sight." Hide a Tank in an armor
unit. Hide a top secret aircraft at the most famous secret base in the world
- AREA 51. I always wondered why you would design a Glass nose "Tank." It
is kind of like putting a screen door on a submarine (Skydiver). Heh heh :)
Don't get me wrong - I love the Mobile Design for the theatrics.

Hi Kevin,

Back in 1979 I'd go to stay with my Grey haired Grandmother in her cottage in Wiltshire, England. She lived in a cottage justover the back of Mac & Joe Maclaine, My Gran was really old in fact nearly 90 ?

Anyway on a cold frosty winters morning we would hear the secret SHADO Mobile's starting their engines. All the Clattering, Spluttering, that was that nice Mr Freeman after smoking a Pack of Woodbines / Camel's ????

Anyway after their initial field tests they had tore up her garden and smashed her green house, she was very angry...............

So much so she sent off a stern letter to Mr Freeman's boss a certain Mr Straker. It was about that time that Granny developed a rare type of bird flu from her pet Parrot and she went Blind ????

Weeks later she came up with a total Cock and bull story about a stranger who entered her house, Didn't say a Word, Played with a new fangled Wireless type thingy, which made very strange Music, Modern popular which was quite Alien to her ???? He then went without a thank you or anything. Although the Parrot Sqwarked alot..........

Granny swore that the stranger had stolen 2 Digestive biscuits and Swiped (stolen) the Electric money ????

Anyway a very nice man came to visit the following day to pay for the damage to her garden and green house. Grannie's cleaning lady complained that the armchair was full of Blonde hair and cigar ash ?

It was just after that that Granny mysteriously dissapeared. Our Family thought she had Won the Pools (Lottery) and had upped and just left ?

35 Years on i remember back to those happy days thinking Granny was a Kinky old bugger because all she left me was a Red PVC Suit and an Old Silver crash Helmet :) :)

Hi Paul,

I like it! I like it!

Made me laugh :-D

BTW, are you a "spin doctor"? Or perhaps a journalist.........:-D

I see Marc cleared off all the dud members - down to 889 (?) now.

Bye for now,

Sarah (UK)

Yes, that's right -- there were a lot of addresses which hadn't
worked in months/years, and I cleaned off everyone who's emails
hadn't for at least the last 3 months.

So don't worry, there was no mass exodus from SHADO... :-)

So you haven't abducted them for "spare parts" then? ;-)

I see on other groups that sometimes all the members are listed,
which isn't the case on SHADO. I guess nearly 900 names and email
addresses would take up too much room :-)

I ask this because having plowed my way through years of archives,
there's many members that used to post often, that in more recent
times don't seem to have contributed. I'm just wondering if for
some, the interest/ enthusiasm waned :-O Find that hard to believe!

By the way, a big thank you to James; I've read through all the
archives you so very kindly put up on your server. Very
entertaining! I so wish I'd had access to the net years ago. So
often I'd find myself wanting to write something and realise what I
was reading was written years ago :-D

I've still yet to read the very early years (thanks Marc), but
they're stored away on the HD :-)

The only period missing is 1997 - mid 1998. I don't suppose anyone
out there has these squirreled away? Sorry, I had to ask :-)

Bye for now,

Sarah

I think I originally hid the subscriber list to keep everyone from
being put on a junk email list. Although since then, Yahoo has
obscured people's email addresses, so that reason no longer applies.
Still, I think its possible that some people may wish to be
anonymously subscribed,

I think that's probably the case. People's interests change with
time, and this list has been going on for a LONG time... (I must
admit that I haven't even watched an entire episode of UFO in
over a year, but then again, I have seen them all 30+ times)

Yes, I've been meaning to get around to that. Here they are:

I was under the impression that nobody actually leaves SHADO - they either have a nasty accident or some amnesia drug slipped into their coffee by Cmmdr Straker...

I can't remember, but wasn't there a line in the series where possibly Alec Freeman says or alludes to something like that about nobody leaving SHADO because they know too much? Thinking on, I recall Paul Foster saying something like that in Kill Straker, and Alec mentioning in Confetti Check OK that SHADO makes some security services look like Sunday School teachers.

And taking that a bit further, what about operatives like Lt Ford or Ayshea? They can't retire from active duty - they know too much. Do they turn up in THe Village?
