Mr Thunderbird & Thunderbirds Are Go!

Neil May
Gerry Anderson fans in the UK will no doubt be
interested to know that Five are showing Mr
Thunderbird - a documentary about Gerry Anderson - at
4.55pm tomorrow followed at 6.10pm by the Thunderbirds
feature film Thunderbirds Are Go!

Mr Thunderbird is a repeat, if it's the one I saw
before then it was first shown on Five over the August
Bank Holiday weekend in 2000. Unfortunately, if I
remember correctly, there's not a lot of stuff about
UFO on it but there's definitely an Ed Bishop
interview & (possibly) one with Gabrielle Drake. Gerry
says in the documentary that he felt Ed could have
made a good James Bond! Maybe he's getting him mixed
up with Mike Billington ...

And as for Thunderbirds Are Go! ... does anyone have
Jonathan Frakes number? If so, maybe someone should
ring him & tell him to watch this film to see how it
SHOULD be done!

Neil

I watched this, hadn't seen it before (though it may well have
been a repeat, I don't remember seeing a similar programme in
2000).

There's a reasonable chunk about UFO, some clips of the models
being filmed, interviews with Ed Bishop and Gabrielle Drake and
Derek Meddings talking about filming the UFO models.

Here's a pic of Gabrielle Drake from the programme:

She was on TV last night too, in another documentary about her
brother, the tragically ill-starred singer/songwriter Nick Drake
('One Skin Too Few')

And most (if not all) of the UFO portions of this program
may be found on my website (in Quicktime):
