Hey all, Felt I had to join this group. I was on Napstar (one of the
few left) and the theme to UFO popped up. This triggered a memory of
the old series that I used to watch as a kid growing up in London.
Then I went to Yahoo and pulled up some information on UFO which led
me to the Marc Martin site and presto! This series had a great impact
on me growing up and I couldn't wait to see it. I would love my kids
to sit down with me and see it possibly on A&E I suspect. Oh well
thats what happens when you sit down on a wet Sunday and browse the
web!

P.S My favorite character was Col. Paul Foster, go figure.

Hi James! It's great to get as many new members as we've been getting to the
egroup - come in and join us, bring us your ideas, your nitpicks, et al.
Marc's site of course totally ROCKS, and there are many other UFO sites
which are great too (Lieve Peten has a super site with "Different Aspects of
UFO" which is really nicely done!) and then there is the SHADO Library. You
like to write? Check this site out for fan fiction and put in your own two
pence worth! Ciao - Pam

Hi Pam,
Everyone is making me feel so welcome I don't know what to say.
I do like to write. I haven't done much fiction lately just writing
articles for the USECC zine COMMUNIQUE on films the UFO appeared in before
and after the series and some on the weapons used in the show and keeping
people updated on what Gabrielle is doing currently.
Pirating is a bad thing but only if it is done for profit. I mean if
you tape a TV episode to view later that isn't piracy. I think that so long
as it isn't done for profit it isn't piracy. I someone has a tape of a
episode of something and they what to make a copy to send to a friend or the
orginal that should be okay. Now if the the people at A&E would stop
dragging their feet and put all of UFO out on tape it would make us all happy
and put the pirates out of business. Who would want to buy a second or third
or more generation tape when the could get a quality first generation tape in
a nice package for the same or lower price.
I hear the soapbox cracking so I'll get off.

Sorry to disagree with you James, but that (your first point)
just isn't true - if I were to make up loads of copies of
copyrighted material and give them away for the price of the
blank CDs, I would clearly be violating the rights of the
copyright owners, in a most unfortunate way. I agree with
your later point that taping TV programmes for your own use,
or making copies of CDs for the car or whatever isn't going
to hurt anyone, but people who take it upon themselves to
distribute other peoples' intellectual property without
permission are very clearly taking liberties.

It's highly unlikely though, I would have thought, that
Fanderson are going to take the trouble to release alternative
versions of this stuff when the potential market has already
been flooded with pirate versions.

A shame, because I know that Fanderson at least take the
trouble to seek the permission of the copyright owners,
and pay royalties to a musicians' union for the material
they distribute.

Not Another Copyright Argument?!!!

I seem to recall in the past that I have repeatedly made
warnings that SHADO is *not* a mailing list to discuss
copyright issues. It is a mailing list to discuss UFO.
Must I now make the entire list moderated to prevent yet
another copyright argument?!!!

No need to worry -- rumor has it that Fanderson is negotiating
for the release of a UFO soundtrack CD, and I suspect that
most of the people who purchased the CD-R will also purchase
"the real thing" when it is released.

And I suspect that the Fanderson UFO CD will also sell for
hundreds of dollars on eBay... :-)

As for other Gerry Anderson soundtracks, I think Fanderson
would *love* to release these, but historically the problem
has been Carlton not allowing them to do it...

Hi Suzanne,
(said James sitting his steak and green salad on the table)
Well I was lucky in that it took me six long years from the time I
first started looking for addresses to get Gabrielle's address. If not I
probably would have put my foot into my mouth up to what I'm setting on.
As I see you always mention Dr. Jackson I take it that you are a fan of
Vladek Sheybal. I got a wonderful letter from him. He was such a wonderful
person. He gave me his home address and invited me to write him anytime. I
was supprised to learn that he had been Gabrielle's teacher at RADA. He was
nothing like the characters he always seems to play. Very charming would be
how I would define him. I was so sad that I didn't write him more when he
past away.
The same goes for Norma Ronald who played Miss Eland. She wrote me a
beautiful four page letter that I treasure. She was so nice to me and was
so glad she could make me feel better when I needed it. I did know tha she
was sick herself at that time and could know how I felt. I wish I had known
that she was sick so I could have returned the the favor before she passed
away.
I got a nice autographed photo from George Sewell. Marc are you ever
going to put that one on the site some place?
That all the stuff I have other than the stuff Gabrielle had sent over
the past 22 years(letters, cards, photos, programs clippings). I reached Ed
and Mike and Dolores and maybe Wanda but if they replied it must have gotten
lost in the mail. I gave up trying to contact the cast after the killings of
John Lennon and Rebecca Shaffer and the attack on Teressa Saldonno coming so
close together. I was hot on the trail of Antonia Ellis in Hollywood and I
didn't want anyone to think I was stalking her or any of the others in the
cast.
So how's that for a chat.

Yes, that's the plan!

(James has sent me several cool things, which I will add to my website
as time permits)

That's a shame that some deranged fans ruined the magic for others.

I figure it just got lost in the mail as I know he got it as a friend of
mine hand delivered it to him at a Fanderson con. It would have been nice to
hear from him but you can't have everything. But I did do what I set out to
do which was to say thank you to him for the lift to my spirits UFO gave me
when I need it.

Ok Lesley, what do you make of that?

Ohhhh and James, where did he live?

When did Norma Ronald die? It's amazing that you wrote to her. She was
a special lady.

Well, James, I urge you to try Ed and Mike again. If you write to Ed's
agent you should get a reply. Trust me on this one. I know he will
respond because I have received a signed autograph from him and I was on
Cloud Moonbase when it arrived.

And as for Mike, he is very accessible on the Internet.

I have heard that Wanda is not very responsive to her UFO fans. Shame
really, I love her, too.

That is a shame. I saw Wanda Ventham on Kensington High Street
about five years ago and was quite tempted to tell her that I
fancied her when I was 11 .. if she's a bit wary of UFO fans,
it's probably better that I didn't! Although I didn't have my
anorak on at the time.

LOL!! Yes, wise move, James:-) Maybe one day she'll realise there's a
whole load of us who love her. It dawned on Mike so there is always
hope for Wanda.
