New! The original script for the UFO episode MINDBENDER!

Hi all,

Recently, Paolo Malaguti at ISOSHADO surprised me by sending me
a copy of the original script for the UFO episode MINDBENDER.
Director Ken Turner was selling off some of his old UFO scripts,
and Paolo bought the MINDBENDER script because that was the
only one he didn't already have.

I have now transcribed this script, and you can read it here:

http://ufoseries.com/scripts/mindbender.html

(note that this link does not yet work from the website, so
right now this is an exclusive to this group)

In my introduction, I note what I see as being the main
differences between the script and the final episode.

One interesting thing -- back at the Fanderson convention
in 2000, director Ken Turner made a comment about how
he made some significant changes because
the story in the script was weak. So I was a bit surprised
to read that the story in the script is basically the same
story we see onscreen! I guess perhaps he was just referring
to some of the interesting touches he added to the episode
(the gunfight scene in the western town being one of them).

Also, although I've seen this episode a zillion times, there
have always been a few lines of dialog that I wasn't quite
sure what was being said. In this script, I can finally
read what these lines of dialog are! (an example of
this is when Straker is hallucinating and walks onto the
Moonbase set, and Nina says SOMETHING to him...

There are lots of little differences between the script
and the final episode, but overall it's pretty similar.

Enjoy, and thanks again to Paolo Malaguti/ISOSHADO for
providing me with the script!

Hi Marc,

This is FANTASTIC!! I had just about given up hope of ever seeing some of the remaining scripts.

Thank you so much Paulo for making it available, and Marc for making it viewable/downloadable.

Thanks again.

Griff

Yes, the MINDBENDER script came as a surprise to me -- I had seen the
advertisement that Ken Turner was selling his ORDEAL and CONFLICT
scripts, but it was not advertised that he was also selling his
MINDBENDER script.

As for additional scripts, I've had on my to-do list for years (literally!)
to add to my website script transcriptions of ESP, COURT MARTIAL,
and CONFLICT (although you may have already seen these elsewhere).
Perhaps now that I'm in "script mode", that may get done in the
near future. But no guarantees, as any number of things could
happen in the near future to take up my free time... :-)

Other than that... I don't know of any more scripts handy.
I know that someone has a copy of THE SOUND OF SILENCE
script, but when I tried contacting them I got no response.
And of course, FANDERSON has copies of all 26 UFO scripts,
but I see no evidence that they will be publishing them anytime
in the near future (and their first UFO script book appeared
to have also been their last)
