New member 'hello'

paulhburns
Hi
I am new member. I have just finished watching both series' on DVD I reallyloved it.
It would be great to see a movie of UFO but I do hope that the Producer, Director, writers etc. get it right! The remake of Battlestar Galactica got it totally right in my opinion, with the mini series format. I think that their research was good they really looked at what was important and updatedthe show, and what a huge success it was.

Thunderbirds the movie totally missed the point and was a disaster I can't tell you how disappointed and upset I was when I saw that. I cant imagine how disappointed Gerry Anderson must have been.

Personally I would love a new up to date TV series but with a proper budgetlike Battlestar Galactica. The series format just feels right to me. Then I could get the box set.

Changing the subject a little, if you were making the new show How would deal with Sky Diver? does anyone know if you could actually launch an aircraft from under water?

All the best

Paul

Really? I mean, I did watch all of the new Battlestar Galactica,
and I did like it, however, as A REMAKE, it seemed to have very
little in common with the original series. I remember thinking,
why did they even bother calling it "Battlestar Galactica", when
it was essentially a brand new series with a few character names
and spacecraft designs that resembled the old Battlestar
Galactica.

Naming it Battlestar Galactica kept people like me who thought the original
was dreadful from watching it.

Why bother doing a show or movie whose only connection with the original is
the name and the names of a few characters? (Artistically. I know why you'd
do it commercially - $$$$$$)

I enjoyed the original Battlestar Galactica, I just could never enjoy the remake.

Poor Jonathon Frakes, I understand he goes undercover when traveling in Britain :)

Launching a aircraft from a submarine predates UFO. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, movie and TV series did it back before UFO. But not sure how Thunderbirds, which also did it, figures in the timeline :)

Hey, if people are going to buy into the things seen in the recent
STAR TREK movie (e.g., transporting into a spaceship traveling
away from you at warp speed), then certainly they're not going
to have any problem with Sky One launching from Skydiver. :-)

Maybe in the UFO movie they'll show Sky One redocking with Skydiver...
or the Interceptor pilots getting in to the Moonbase Interceptors...

Ok the question of lanching from a sub is not as much trouble as you think. Submaires do lanch missles, a aircraft is just a larger missle

To make a structure air and water tight might be a challenge, but doable. the question is propulsion.

I have to disagree MarcThe main story is the same. All the characters are the same, changed a little here and there. I watched a bit of the original recently and I was surprised how many things were the same or very similar. The main battlestar is the same shape, Vipers more or less the same shape.I do see that the new battlestar is a lot darker and much more serious than the 70's version but I think thats a sign of the times. I really think they have been true to the original apart from some bad jokes and 70's hairstyles.Paul

The overall premise was the same, but most of the details are dramatically
different. If a UFO movie is as different as Battlestar Galactica, we
won't even recognize it... Freeman will be a woman, Foster will be an
Alien but won't realize it, etc. :-)

Certainly it must have been called "Battlestar Galactica" so that the
ratings would be good enough to approve a full series. I don't know
how this would apply with "UFO" -- does "UFO" really have much name
recognition outside of the UK?

Interesting thought. So what sort of propulsion does a missile
like Polaris or Trident use to get above sea level? I don't
think the propulsion intended to get it to Moscow or Pyongyang
kicks in until it's in fresh air, although I'm not sure where
I got that idea.

Yes your right about the missle fireing after it gets to sirface. It rides on a large air bubble till then.
How ever the way the show depicks the sky1 lanchs may not be possable, I picture more of a surface lanch. Where the sub comes up and the aircraft is lanched that way.
