Hello,
My name is James Killian and I've just joined the group. I've not new to UFO or UFOfandom. I first saw UFO in 1972 when I was recovering from a serious illness. I was feeling very lonely and most of my friends had just left me behind. I expected that if I got sick again like I seem to every two years since I became a diabetic that I would die. I wasn't interested in anything and I started seeing this promo for this show called UFO. So when it came on I watched it. Well, of course I got hooked. More than that I felt that here was this show about people fighting against impossible odds and not giving up so why should I. I also felt I should thank the people responsible so I sent out to write the cast and say thanks. That turned into something of a Quest for the Holy Grail. But after six years I contacted the first and and few years into the early 80's I had contacted most of the main cast to say thanks. One of these who was the first I contact was my favorite character and we have become dear friends over the past 22 years come this August. Who you ask? Think big green eyes. I'm semi-retired. I would like to write. I'm working on a reference book for a sub-genre of action films. I have a knowledge of old movies and a lot of reference books to do research. I love to answer questions about films. My also know about weapons and martial arts from what I learned when I wanted to be a spy(so I now work for SHADO). My hobbies are repairing and restoring old weapons and watching old movies and TV especially anything British or SF or Fantasy or all of the above. Did I leave anything out like the kitchen sink? Hi Yuchtar,
Okay since I want to keep this on a friendly basis(even though almost all my arsenal has a better range than the flame-thrower, 'cept for the old model Beretta .25, but the .300 mag. sniper rifle is good to a 1000 meters) I'll talk. The green eyes didn't give it to you and she is the only one in the cast with that color eyes. Gabrielle Drake. Now I've got to start wearing my kevlar jacket again when her male fans on here read this. Thanks for the first welcome. James K. |

Hello James K, Well, we have something in common:-) I also started watching UFO while being treated for an auto-immune disease which I still have. By 1972, I was at a stage where I was a lot more aware of what was going on and I have to say that those trailers that were shown for most of the summer of 1972 made me extremely curious. I couldn't really say that UFO gave me the will to go on and keep fighting but it sure lit up my life. I was very taken aback when there was no UFO2. To be honest, I became very depressed when it went off the air:-( I can't really say that I wanted to reach out either to the people who appeared on the show. I had the Golden Opportunity to meet Ed Bishop back in May of 1973 but there was no way that I would go near him as I would have just simply freaked. Being a part of the Cyber UFO universe has certainly helped me to see things differently. I have finally made contact with Ed and it was a very happy experience and Michael Billington is very easy to e-mail. I take it the One with the Green Eyes refers to one of the female cast members;-)? Well, I'm sure you will find a nice corner of the SHADO staff canteen to enjoy your steak and green salad and share further memories and stories. Glad you could join us:-) -- Suzanne Sutherland aka drdougjackson |
