Two ideas hit me from this comment above:
1) portable hole - you mean as in a stargate sort of thing>
2) the portable hole Bugs Bunny cartoon where the geeky little scientist
creates chemical portable holes which are stolen from him and used in a
crime spree by an unseen but black shado(w) like character.....Pam
