New to Group

Teresa
Hi. I live in the Boston, MA USA area and am a fan of UFO series and other Anderson works (esp. Stingray, Fireball XL5 and Space:1999)

I am interested in connecting with other folk in the eastern United States with similar interests. especially if there are any fan activities in the States.

Of course with the low airfares btwn here and London, I could possibly afford to make it to a UK convention sometime soon.

Sincerely,
Teresa Tutt

Hi Teresa - I live in Atlantic Canada - I've been to Boston a number of
times over the last 22 yrs - including a 1979 s-f convention called Boscon -
the special guests that con were Marion Zimmer Bradley and the author of
Dune - ..... Herbert I think (I forget now but I did get his autograph!) I
was down there for a Titanic con in 1992 and narrowly missed Patrick Stewart
as the key speaker at another s-f con - at least I got into the dealers'
room!

captphil (Phil Merkel) here! I'm from Eastern Long Island. I often glare
at the shores of Connecticut from my evil headquarters here.

Well I will be attending Boskone in Framingham Mass in February and probably
be hanging around a few days later at my sisters house in Northboro area. I
was thinking about getting together with some of my Space 1999 friends who
live in Mass for dinner or something like that.

Boskone is a regular SF convention, no media stuff. GOH is George RR Martin
who I really like.

I had the chance to meet in person many Space 1999 fans at the recent Space
1999 convention in NYC and call Marc up on the phone with a Dealers Room
report! I was super tired but it was fun to put a voice with the face and
website that I have been using since i signed on the internet I guess since
1994!

Who else is around New England. Am I off topic? Sorry.

I have made videos of the Space 1999 convention I went to (three tapes,
around 16 hours total) so if you want them I would be happy to make them up
for you, if you don't mind waiting for me to finish making the ones people
have already requested. The UFO people there were Keith Wilson. I don't
think anyone else was there who worked on UFO. Keith didn't say much about
UFO but he did say he designed the costumes for UFO!

Huh? I thought century 21 costumes were designed by Sylvia Anderson.

Slightly OT, but who designed the costumes for Space:1999 (after
Sylvia's departure)? My mom always liked the skirts.

Of course, I always wanted a moonbase bodysuit like Lt's Nina Barry
and Gay Ellis...

Both Keith Wilson & Sylvia Anderson claim to have designed the costumes
on UFO. In Keith's favor, you can find in Fanderson's "UFO Design File"
booklet his original sketches for Straker's outfit, Skydiver crew
uniforms, and Interceptor pilot uniforms. Also, at the recent
Century 21 convention, you could see his original sketch of the Alien
costumes.

Sylvia certainly received onscreen credit for the "Century 21 Fashions",
but it's hard to tell exactly what her contributions were. I've read
articles where she said she came up with the purple wigs & Skydiver
mesh shirts, but I've seen no sketches or any other evidence that she
*designed* anything.

Perhaps "Fashion" means she picked out the fabric?! I don't know...

Space:1999 Year One costumes were designed by Rudi Gernreich & Keith Wilson.
Space:1999 Year Two costumes were designed by Keith Wilson.

Marc,
Sorry your wrong..... Watch the credits on Space 1999. Keith was
production designer: that means interiors, furniture etc......

Alan.

Yes, Keith Wilson's primary job on Space:1999 Year Two was production
design, but he was also involved with at least some of the costume
design in Space:1999 Year Two -- he discussed this at last
September's Space:1999 convention in New York, where he talked about
the changes in the uniforms for the Alphans.

But you're correct about Emma Porteaous, who probably did do most of
the costume design for Space:1999 Year Two -- for example, she did
Maya & most the guest Alien characters each week.

Also, everyone should note that there is a Space:1999 discussion list
called "[hidden email]", and if anyone wants to get into
this any deeper, it should be discussed there.

<looking forlornly at my big Budha-Belly> Yeah, know the feeling. <sigh>
But I was always partial to those Skydiver suits! :-)
