[OT?] New Captain Scarlet?

Scott Kellogg

(Moderator, if this is too far off topic, please feel free to kill it.
Thanks!)

Hi all,

I'm new here, so I'm sorry if this is a bit off topic. I'm assuming that Gerry
Anderson's other work isn't too far off.

I've been hearing some folks talk about Gerry Anderson's new version of Captain
Scarlet, made with CGI (Hypermarionation as he calls it).

I gather they've started showing it, but I haven't heard much about it.
Has anyone seen it? Does it live up to the original?

Thanks,

Scott

I have watched 10 episodes of the new version. I am undecided in my
opinion as to how the new shows compare and/or live up to the original.
I feel the voice acting in the original was better. When I started
watching the new shows, I had hoped the voice actors would loosen up a
bit as they went along, but even at episode 10 I don't feel they have
changed much. Perhaps they recorded the full season in just a few
sessions, I don't know.

The animation is pretty good, but could be better. I do 3D modeling
myself and see a lot of shortcuts being used, however I have seen worse.
I don't know if they are using motion capture or are manually rigging
the models. I haven't had time to read up on the production details. (If
anyone has a link that covers the behind the scenes animation work, I
would be interested.)

All in all, I am enjoying the series and hope it continues, if for no
other reason than hoping Gerry Anderson's other shows (UFO) may see a
revival because of any success Captain Scarlet may have.

SIG!
Martin
