In the 1st UFO novel (UFO1 - written by John Burke AKA Robert Miall - and
approved by Tony Barwick the UFO Script Architect and Editor) it states that; "Paul Foster was 30 years, had broken both legs in a racing car smash, had come out of hospital and started again. He had flown and proved the worth of the three fastest jets so far known to man..." ...so, doesn't sound like the kind of person who'd be satisfied flying a passenger loaded airplane... ...I love fairground rides, but I wouldn't want him at the controls when flying off on holiday with the wife!!!! :) Best to all, Griff -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of buggerzionagain Sent: Friday, June 09, 2006 3:34 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: [SHADO] Re: Paul Foster ? The legal definition of a Commercial Pilot is:One who transports passengers
and cargo on fixed routes and shedules. They have full responsibility for the safety of passengers and crew. So Paul at one time likely flew passengers. Perhaps not a pilot for a major airline but perhaps as pilot for one of these charter type airlines like on Wings. As everyone seems to feel that he did not have the temerment for the job perhapst that is why he was working as test pilot. James K. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

The Legal definition of a commercial pilot, is anyone who flys for compensation or hire.... it doesn't matter what, or who you carry, or if any passengers or cargo at all. James's definition above sounds more like Part 121 operations - air carrier ATP. Under that Legal definition,(straight from the FAA) Paul Foster would be a commercial pilot, as he was flying for Kofax at the time as a test pilot. Now whether or not he was an airline pilot.... given his young age, fitting in both an Air Force career, and his experience as a test pilot, would probably preclude him from also having spent time as an airliner. Actually. Commercial airlines do not have commercial rated pilots.
They must be commercially rated upon entry to te airline but they actually fly on an airline transport pilot's licence Basic commercial licence is not the licence rating used for airlines!
