Peter Gordeno

Hi all,

I've received an email claiming that Peter Gordeno passed
away on October 18th. I don't see any confirmation
of this online, so I guess we'll have to wait & see...

Hi all - very sad to hear it may be true Peter Gordeno passed away. I seem to recall seeing pix of Peter at a con with his head shaved and possibly reading he'd had cancer - can anyone confirm this? Pam the Canuck

Yes, that was at the Fanderson convention in October 2000. Here's a
photo of him with fan Dave Watkins (who sadly has also passed away):

I saw some pics such as you describe in the Fanderson magazine circa
2001. If it's indeed true, it's very sad. For some reason I've just
remembered an appearance by Mr Gordeno on The Golden Shot in the
seventies, in which, IIRC, he plugged a record he'd made. He sang it
while, on screen, girls danced around him. The difference here was
that he was in close-up most of the time and the girls were only a few
inches high! When he finished, Bob Monkhouse said that there hadn't
been any trick photogrpahy - Peter Gordeno was extremely tall!

Mr. Gordeno was extremely kind to our friend Dave Watkins when he was
dying of cancer. Dave said he invited him to spend the day at his
house. It was evident that it cheered Dave up immensely during a very
difficult time.

of the blue from someone I don't know, I never know to whether to
believe them or not.

No problem Marc. Once you mentioned that you received the email, I checked the internet. It was posted very recently and seems like a reliable source. If you remember, a few years back, someone had said he passed away (and he hadn't).

It is sad that another UFO icon is gone, especially at so young an age. I will always remember him for helping out Dave. Dave was so happy after that visit with Peter and his trip to the 007 movie set at Pinewood. It is wonderful that so many people were kind to him because he was one of the nicest people we've ever met.

Thanks for posting the picture of Dave and Peter. I think he (Dave) would have liked that.

I hope everything is well with you and your wife. Everything is ok here. I wish we could make it to the Barry Gray concert but the timing isn't good for us this year.

Time for bed. It's nearly 2am and I have work in a few hours.

That these actors are dying and that we think of them as young (my
definition of young gets older every year) is an uncomfortable
reminder of how old we all are!! I recall thinking just a few years
ago how all the great stars of Hollywood's Golden Age are now dead
(there are a very few actors from that time around, but the major
stars have all gone) and the TV stars of my youth are dwindling in
number rapidly.

As an aside to Marc, Peter's death prompted me to have a long browse
around your site and I'm really impressed with the changes you have
made over the past months. There are some ugly, poorly designed sites
out there devoted to UFO, but yours is a clean, stylish and impressive
presence on the web.

Thank you! Although I still need to spend a few weekends and eliminate
all those "old style" pages, which I think still outnumber the newer

You know, reading that obituary in The Independent, I'm amazed
at how much of that article is about "UFO". It seems to me like
UFO was a very minor part of his career, and didn't warrant this
amount of coverage. Perhaps the obituary writer was big UFO fan...

It seems that the 2nd obituary posted (The one from the Guardian)
focuses more on the other aspects of his career. I think the writer
from the Independent *was* a UFO fan.

Do you know or have a view on what his correct date of birth was. IMDB
has 20 June 1941 and The Guardian says June 20 1939.

I think the obituaries are more trustworthy than IMDB, so 1939
would be my choice. Besides, 1939 is what my UFO website has
always said... :-) (but I no longer recall what my source was)

Hey David, who are you calling old??? LOL ;-) I deal with seniors (most
of them 80+) every day so I guess my idea of "old" is a bit skewed. To
me, anyone who passes away in their 60s *is* young. I guess my "young
at heart attitude" helps as well although my body isn't cooperating
100% with my attitude. LOL

Regarding the website (and to stay O.T.) I agree 100% with your
comments about Marc's site. The website is easy to navigate (although I
shamefully missed Peter Gordeno's birthdate on it) and I prefer the
clean look as well. Too many websites are far too "busy" and cluttered
to find the information that you are looking for. I hope to have more
time this winter to review it thoroughly. Thanks for all of your hard
work keeping the website so pleasant and easy to navigate Marc!

I agree. With my parents in their late 70's, 80 is old to me but then
there are the very old in their 90's. I agree that anyone in their
60's is still young. And that's not all about getting older myself, it
really is young in many ways. Although we all age at different rates
of course and I know people in their 30's who are old and those in
their 80's who are young and full of life and optimisim.
