Question of Priorities

AmyStrakerShado1

Ok here is a thought I have been pondering :0) I am curious as to why
Ed could not been torn from Shado when his son was in ICU in Question
of Priorities. He had to be there. Truthfully I thought Alec made most
of the decisions even with Ed present. Yet in Responbility Seat he
went running after a girl to get a tape which may or may not have
recorded the words "Commander Straker" In doing this spent the entire
day away from Shado with a girl he hardly knew, who was obviously
feeding him lies and hit him over the head to boot. Certainly a severe
UFO incident could of occured that day as well which Alec could of
also handled.
I was always a bit baffled by this priority order. If he was
lovestruck by that girl..certainly Gay, Nina or Virginia would of been
a better choice to fall for. I certainly would of loved to have had a
shot for Ed's affections :0) I hope this thought is a good
conversation starter :)

I've wondered a similar thing: Why didn't he tell anyone at SHADO why he was
having the flight from New York leave early?
A note in this group just a few days ago said he was using the flight
"illegally." That had never occurred to me in the show, and if that's what
the scriptwriters' intention was, it's not really made clear in the script.

I never thought of that Dennis. That would justify the silence on Ed's
part. I can't think of any other reason :0)..Amy

Coming out of lurking here...

I always thought of his silence to be that of his commander's character. He
always seemed to suffer quietly onto himself. Taking the weight of the world
on his shoulders and bearing that pain, grief, etc with quiet dignity. It
gave him a more "tortured hero" persona that I suspect most of us ladies fell
in love with at our tender age back in the early 70's.

It never occured to me that his use of the jet was wrong...bad timing
perhaps...but it was his to use in whatever manner the his command required
of it. Then it was probably more embarrasment that he had shown weakness in
using it for personal needs when there was a SHADO need.

About a year ago I bought both sets of UFO DVD's. I did not remember Priorities for some unknown reason. Maybe I was too young or I never saw the episode. The first time I saw it I was po'd. The idea that my hero would choose chasing a UFO instead of helping his only child made me see red. I brought it up in this message forum and the opinions flew back and forth like you would not believe. I know now that I was over reacting because my own father abandoned me time after time. I watched the episode again and now I understand. Straker asked for the cure first but the UFO was more important. Those transports were only available to that location for a limited time. The transports were already on stanby for UFO's. Straker did ask that the transports take to the air as soon as the mobiles were unloaded. It was time that was against his son not Straker himself.

Yes, but the use to which he put it had nothing to do with his command.
