If I may wade into the fracas, the series will most probably be produced in
Canada, not the US. All of the series that Pen Densham's production company
have done are (and were) shot, I believe, in Vancouver, with mostly Canadian
production staff and actors. They'll probably get one or two Americans for
the main roles.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this means the show will be bad, but
I just wish it wouldn't end up looking like STARGATE SG-1.

Veres, Mary
I think you have the right attitude Brian. I'd be excited for ANYTHING to
keep UFO fandom going. Even if the new production isn't using the same
actors--whom I really liked and thought "made" the show back then--A new
rendition will cause the old show to still be remembered and perhaps
introduce new people to UFO lists like this, bringing in some of the
old-timers who don't know there is a fandom waiting for their participation
out here. I only caught a wave of it in 1997 (and have wished I knew about
it earlier).

The storyline of UFO is fabulous. I can see all sorts of great things using
the storyline--as a lot of fanfic currently demonstrates. Having an open
mind to some changes wouldn't hurt us who love the old show at all. We're
not going to see the old actors back again. So maybe new actors and new
stories will become equally as good after we've had a chance to get used toa
new format...

Mary

I agree with Mary that it will be good to have a new UFO series,
whether it turns out to be something we'll like or not. The premise
was too cool to sit idle for so many decades. For a post-XFiles
viewing audience, the show might really be able to say something
intriguing. We can hope.

But remember that Canada is also responsible for Forever Knight
and Highlander, the Series, both are good shows.

It scares me to think this, but Brian may be right a la Pen Densham's
production company and shows. They may try to pull in a few recognizable
Yank actors for the main roles (i.e. Straker, Foster, et al) - Stargate ends
this season doesn't it - imagine RDA as Straker.....

But I digress. Being a Canuck I'd like to think we could do UFO justice here
but all I can think of is that mindbendingly awful The Starlost from the
1970's that CTV tried to produce. It was soooo bad Harlan Ellison, who
originally flogged the idea to the company, opted to put one of his
pseudonoms on the credits (Cordwainer Smith I think it was). Now that's
pretty bad...

I don't know if Anderson could play Straker or not,but I can certainly think of worse people. To be honest, I would prefer that they go with "No-name" actors so that they can build the role from scratch, but I know that it won't happen.
You do need at least one or two "Names" to sell it and then have to focus on them in order to justify their saleries. We shall just have to wait and see what develops....

i love UFO, Space 1999, and yes Starlost. it wasn't the greatest show on TV
but it was an interesting premise. it was also a way to see walter koenig as a
villain. THis was before Babylon 5. i admit that was the only reason why i
watched it. scott

"Imagine a dying planet in some distant corner of the universe. Its natural resources exhausted. Its inhabitants sterile. Doomed to extinction. A situation we may one day find ourselves in, gentlemen. So they discover earth. Abundant, fertile. Able to satisfy their needs. They look upon us not with animosity, but callousness. As we look upon our animals that we depend on for food. Yes, it appears they are driven by circumstance across a billion miles of space, driven on by the greatest force in the universe - survival."
