Re: Century 21 convention

Marc Martin-2
Regarding my earlier question on getting from Heathrow to the
Century 21 convention, Derek Eaton suggested I take a flight
from Heathrow to Birmingham, and then a taxi to the Hotel. Sounds
good to me -- thanks Derek! That way I can then fly from
Birmingham to Vienna, and then onto the Ukraine.

Next question -- anyone know what time the convention starts
on Saturday and ends on Sunday? Perhaps someone who has gone
to a previous Fanderson convention could guess at an approximate
time? That way I can start figuring out flights to take.

Another question -- does anyone have a convention registration form
that they could scan & e-mail to me? I already mailed my
registration form in as a supporting member... under the assumption
that there was no way that I could attend!

Also, I assume that I can take pictures at the con, but what's
Fanderson's policy regarding tape recording interviews, etc.?

Thank you very much, Carly!!!

I'm flying from Seattle Washington USA to Dnepropetrovsk Ukraine. I'm
not sure what the restrictions are on airlines, but no Aeroflot,
please! I know that we typically fly to Copenhagen on SAS, then onto
Vienna, then to Dnepropetrovsk on Austrian. I guess the general plan
would be to get to Birmingham on Friday, then fly to Vienna & onto
Dnepropetrovsk on Sunday or Monday.

>you could catch the underground into central London (about 45 minutes)

I was thinking that by plane would be the ideal way to go, due to the
luggage involved for a 2 week trip.

>Re the registration form, I don't have one: I used it to register...
>but if you're a supporting member, won't they just 'upgrade' you?

Sure, but I think I need another registration form to do that, don't I?

Hi Marc,

Derek is right about the travel. If you didn't fly, you would have to go
into London, catch a train to Coventry and then a taxi to the Hotel (which I
think is about 10 miles from the Airport.) If you use the AA web site
(www.theaa.co.uk) and do a hotel search under Allesley, you will find
details of the hotel and it's location.

The con would probably start at about 10am, possibly 9am at the earliest. It
would usually finish at about 8pm on the Sunday. This is based on what they
have done in previous cons.

I think that there is a registration form which can be printed out on the
Fanderson web page.

Cheers

I've been looking at flight schedules, and it looks like I can just
bypass London altogether, and fly directly to Birmingham, which is
even better!

Thanks! Right now it doesn't look like I'll be able to be there on
Sunday at all, but being there on Saturday is still *much* better than
nothing!

Really? I didn't see that anywhere... does anyone have a web address
for that?

hi Marc -
fuller reply will follow direct to you as I cannot believe that the rest of
the SHADO list will find details of open jaw flights from SEA to DNK via BHX
or LHR interesting.

But one thing I should say upfront is flights from LHR to BXH (that's
Heathrow to Birmingham International airport for those who don't think in
IATA airport codes) don't exist. London's too close to Birmingham for the
flights to be viable - at least, that's my guess for why the lack of
scheduled flights. However there is a flight from SEA via AMS to BHX which
gets you into BHX at 10am on Saturday. That's the good news. *But* I don't
recommend it because you'll have 1 hr transit time at AMS before the BHX
flight so if your incoming flight is delayed you'll miss the connection to
BHX.

More follows. Off list!!

Best regards,
Carly

Vienna?! I'm living next to Vienna, Marc.
Hey, maybe you can wave down to me when you fly over me ;-)
Of course I will wave back to you. :-D
