Hollywood?  Hmmm I wish they could locate a different movie studio California just doesn't feel right for this...  Gee Tucson (Arizona) has seena lot of film work move in from California lately. The desert and local air force base would provide all sorts of opportunities! I think I'll miss the Brits and their unique dialog if the location ends up being in the US.

Cheers,
Mary

I feel much the same about the move across the Atlantic as I did about the
Time Machine remake doing the same - it's just not right

Anyway, the best place for an organization like SHADO is not a major city
with lots of prying eyes, and putting civilians in danger . Arizona or
outback Oz is much better (Pine Gap/Woomera).

I live in California and I don't like it either.  Hollywood is just, well, kind of cheesy.  I know it makes their location work easy.  If they have to use California it would be so much better if they used Treasure Island, San Francisco Bay.  For those not familiar with it, Treasure Island is a man-made island in SF Bay built for the Worlds Fair 1940.  It later served as a U.S. Naval base until the late 1980's.  It sat for some years a collection of off limits former military buildings and warehouses and hasrecently re-opened with several small film studios operating there.  Now, if that's not a perfect SHADO back story I don't know what is!!  But who am I to question the judgement of Hollywood studio executives?? ;)

Hay, don't lose hart.? We do have some Brit's here and a few locations that can look like parts of Britain.? As for air bases, remember "Independence Day"?? Even the director just might us the US as one of the many bases in SHADO.
Just keep your fingers cross and hope for the best.

To be honest irrespective of the setting for the film, if they can't
reproduce characters such as Ed Straker and Foster and reignite an
absolute disbelief that ALIENS are actually coming to Earth then I
think any remake will have missed the point that has kept most of us
gripped for over 30 years by this amazing programme.

I think that best place for SHADO headquaters should be in a major city. Not a army base after all SHADO was under a movie studio and nobody gave it asecond thought when something happened at a movie studio they just thoughtoh, well more special effects. Or they could do it like the Man from Uncleseries in the back of a dry cleaners. Something like that would make a movie more believeable that having it it a let see what's in that out in the open so call secret army base.

While the secret base under a film studio idea was something that
really captured my imagination as a kid, I think the best location
for SHADO headquarters is a military base in the back of beyond
somewhere. Easier to defend than a film studio, little risk of
civilian casualties from marauding UFOs, lots more security and no
need for Straker and friends to have pretend day jobs.

Actually, I think Dee may have something there - bases EVERYWHERE after 40
years. And assuming the studio posted a "profit" the money might be sunk
into R&D into new technologies, new bases... MIB had the patents to gizmos
like Velcro, supposedly - why not the same idea for SHADO?

Rock on!
