My experience is similar to yours. I remember it being on an NBC "Saturday Night at the Movies" WAAAAY back when. I watched it because I'd been a big fan of Thinnes in the INVADERS and hadn't seen or heard of UFO yet. I rememebr the "impotent" comment as well but the BCP's and "catting around" went over my head. I'll have to track down that DVD as well. Any SHADO operatives here have any leads or suggestions on where to get either the UK or US release and which would be the better choice? |

With all the discussion, I started to scout for this again on DVD. It's been out of print for a while and no one is stocking it anymore. You can fairly easily find the VHS. I happened to luck out and find a DVD copy at my local library. I have it on hold and expect it soon. Jim (and others on the same quest):
If you strike out at Best Buy check out Sam Goody's (where I found my DVD copy). Hi folks -
Last night, Anthony and I were discussing the availability of "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun" on DVD, whilst chatting, we performed an Internet search for outlets that might carry it. We ran into quite a few dead ends. There were outlets such as Best Buy that had it on their files, but had the availability listed with irritating terms like "unavailable", "no longer taking orders for the item" and so on. If you do manage to find it on the shelves somewhere - GRAB IT! I found an article that stated that Universal was suing Image Entertainment over the low pricing of its DVD releases of Universal titles. For those that want to read the article, here is the link: http://dvd.ign.com/news/33158.html Image Entertainment is basically discontinuing any Universal titles it was carrying and "Journey" is on that list. I know that they do have it listed on Amazon.com for 39.90 or so for a used copy and 43-something for a new copy. Unless you can find it on eBay or at your local video store, it looks like finding it on DVD may be a tough bit indeed. The VHS tape version of "Journey" is in a very large supply and is quite cheap from as low as 7.99 or so. I do know that Netflix.com does have the DVD listed in their library and you can rent it from them if you must see it on DVD. I hope this helps a bit... I'm trying to catch up on my lists!
So, here is a lot of more or less related things I had to know or comment about. 1- I got the DVD 'Journey on the far side of wherever' on E-bay! I just watched the first part where a certain guy we all know appears. But I watched it a lotsa times, so, it must compensate for the rest of the film's length! ;-) 2-The TF1 set: sounds interesting! Even if the colors are darker than the 2 other sets. I was wondering if they were using the dubbing made over here in Québec and, listening to the short file where we hear Straker and Foster talking (before the Lake bit) it seems they did! 8-) Is there any info about this on the DVD, Marc? Is Léo Illial's cited somewhere? I think I should get it if only to get the Billington-Bishop scene James G. was tawking about! LOL! *I* found it funny! <giggle> 3-The smoking issue. Someone mentioned with a kind of surprised terror the fact that everybody was smoking everywhere. So? This total intolerance to smoking we now know is fairly new. I remember the 80's where you not only could smoke anywhere you wanted, it was kinda expected that you would! It was socially acceptable and smoking cigars was even considered high class. I did smoke cigar in college and <cough> pipe in university. (Hey! A gal's got to stand out. And no, it was not anything stupefying in it: just nice custom made tobacco smelling of raspberry. And I couldn't inhale the stuff, so it was all for show ;-). Ah! the good old times! Anyway, I have no problem with those characters smoking like chimneys! It was the norm at the time. 4-Someone mentioned some new nice toys getting out in Japan soon? I would appreciate if you would post information when it becomes available. Thank you, whoever you were! :-) I think that's about it! --Anny :-D |
