Looking at the photos from "The Man Who Came Back" brought several thoughts
to mind: 1) SID sure is one BIG satellite. When it passes overhead it must cause an eclipse. 2) The helmets on the spacesuits sure look real. That is some nice machining around the seal area, for example. 3) I have always had major problems with this episode. If the aliens wanted Collins to kill Straker, wouldn't it have been a lot easier to just have him pull a gun and shoot him? It would have been a much shorter episode, granted, but it sure seems like they went to a lot of trouble for nothing. It seems like they could have come up with some way to explain that Collins had to be near SID or in space or something for the programming to trigger. Bill |

You're quite right, Collins could have killed Straker at any time. |

Actually in Bond, they almost never shoot people directly. Bond wouldn't have made it out of Dr. No if the villians hadn't tried to get fancy. A point that was made repeatedly in the Austian Powers spoofs. James ids correct that just shoot ing Straker would have made this one of the shortest shows, not to mention the most boring. 007 Syndrome?
Just shoot the bugger? What Bond movies have you people been watching? In all the Bond movies 007 has only shot 3 of the main villains, 3 and a half if you want to count Electra King as being half of a team in The World is Not Enough. Three out of 20 only makes 15%. It might be that the aliens don't have full control of Collins and can only make his jealousy of Straker more intense. Or Perhaps they are trying to make anything that happens to Straker look like a accident so they can move Collins up the ranks where he will be of use in the future? James K. I use the term '007 syndrome' to refer to the situation where the villain fails to shoot 007, despite having repeated opportunities to do so, preferring instead to devise cruel and inventive methods of execution from which he inevitably escapes - a situation which occurs repeatedly in the Fleming novels, and indeed in the films as well. PS: How does Batman's mother call him in for dinner? Answer - Dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner, dinner Batman! |

Oops!
Okay what I meant to say in the last message about what you are calling 007 Syndrome is that it is really called The Evil Overlord Symdrome. There a a couple of lists out about all the mistakes villains makes. There is one called The 100 Things I will not do when I become a Evil Overlord. The I will just shoot the hero when I have him at my mercy is high on the list. Also included are things like not killing a trusted Lieutenant just because he tells you the bad news(and Keith Ford thinks he has it rough), no secret base with air conditioning duct large enough to crawl through, not having the whole base using just one computer, etc, etc. James K.
