Well, to be fair, a faithful remake of ANY Gerry Anderson show MUST have
some pretty big explosions... :-)

Nowadays, people's feelings are sometimes different from in 1970, and
many viewers may not want to see every alien that appears being
xenophobically destroyed as soon as possible. Sone may want to see
peaceful contact, or an episode set among aliens.

They may want to see that, but that's not "UFO", now is it?

I'm always amazed that when many people talk about UFO remakes, the
first thing they want to do is make some major change to the premise.

That would be what I was refering to when I talked about a UFO movie being
done by someone who did not retain the original concept of the series.
If people want a film about peaceful contact with aliens then they should be
remaking E.T. or Close Encouters Of The Third Kind where the aliens are sweet
cute and loveable not those who come to Earth to kidnap and kill humans for
unwilling organ donation. That was the plot of UFO. To do other wise would
not do the series justice. If they want sweet and cuddly aliens fine but
don't call it UFO because it wouldn't be!

We're going into our second week of discussion about the UFO episode
SUB-SMASH. Anyone still have any comments they'd like to make?

I don't know bout peaceful contact as a major plot point, but it could be a teaser for the second movie, since we do know that there are more then one group of aliens visting the Earth.Even the Reds have had the occasional defector, not that they ever make it in, so as to maintain the suspence of the show.I also am peeved at those who "Remake" a series and then change major plot lines or rewrite history. Enterprise and the recent encounter with the Borg is a good example of that.Lets keep UFO as it is, updated if absolutely necessary, but as close to the mythos as possible. Please don't explode. It is a royal pain to clean up after you when you do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think you got my point about the last thing we need in a film of UFO
is someone turning the aliens into a bunch of Disneyesque ET's who are just
coming down to be our friends and live in peaceful co-existance so I won't
explode.
There was one example of a alien defector in Question of Priorities
and there would possible be others on the alien home world. But unless there
were several films it would be impossible to explore that idea in detail.
That is really where several of the movies based on TV series have gone
wrong. The have tried to put in every plot concept from the original series
in a 2 hour film. The result is like taking several different jigsaw puzzles
and taking certain parts you like and trying to make one puzzle of them. It
doesn't work.
