Some common Anderson-isms ... (In no order of importance).

FAB (Thunderbirds) = Nothing (as explained) - a 1960s 'Fabulous'
WASP (Stingray) = World Aquanaut Security Patrol
PWOR (Stingray) = Proceeding With Orders Received
SIG (Captain Scarlet) = Spectrum Is Green
SIR (Captain Scarlet) = Spectrum Is Red (Yes, it is said in an ep.)
SPC (Captain Scarlet) = Spectrum Patrol Car
SPV (Captain Scarlet) = Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle
MSV (Captain Scarlet) = Maximium Security Vehicle
WIN (Joe 90) = World Intelligence Network
BIG RAT (Joe 90) = Brain Impulse Galvanascope, Record And Transmit.
BISHOP (The Secret Service) = British Intelligence Service Headquarters
Operation Priest
SHADO (UFO) = Supreme Headquaters Alien Defence Organisation
SID (UFO) = My uncle's name
UFO (UFO) = Clever little round things devised by Derek Meddings
IR (Thunderbirds) = International Rescue
TOOTIE (Fireball XL5) = 'You 'silly' person - as in...'What a Tootie'.

Nope. Tootie was actually in use in England, at least around the
locality Fireball was being produced. "That's tootie!" equaled
"Good, ok!". Apparently "That's boss!" meant exactly the oppsite.

And yeah, I *do* need to get out more lol.

Well I prefer Nodette's meaning for this one.
I remember Zodiac calling himself a Tootie when he did something silly.
And I remember various other characters using it in reference to
actions that were most definitely not good or Okay. Generally when
something silly was done or said.
So in reference to the XL5 show, it definitely refers to a *silly*
person :O)

I just watched DVD #1 of Fireball XL5 today and all eight episodes.
Holy crap!

I was just a preschooler when I last saw the series on broadcast TV
here in the States. It must have made an impression on me as I
remember the characters and Fireball XL5. I remember I had a big
plastic Fireball XL5 model with detachable Fireball Jr. and firing
interceptors which I've been trying to find online without success. I
also had a Fireball XL5 lunchbox in first grade. How hip.

Seeing it now as an adult forty years later, I was amazed at the
technical skill employed in the series, but was even more fascinated
with the elements that were common to Gerry Anderson shows. I heard
many music clips and sound effects which were employed in UFO. I even
heard a short snippet of the UFO end theme in a Fireball XL5 episode.

David Graham narrated "The Doomed Planet" on this disc which was
absolutely delightful. During his discussion, he reviewed some of the
Andersonisms like FAB, Boss and Tootie. He confirms that "tootie" was
a synonym for crazy. A modern day term for it would be "whacked."

This is great stuff and I'm real happy to live in a time when I can
have the opportunity to compare the vision between a child's and an
adult's perspective.

Also got UFO Disk #8 today. I will watch and prepare my thoughts as
per SOP.

I just got done with disc two. I'd never seen anything pre-STINGRAY before
the DVDs, so this has been an education. Some observations:

1. Isn't XL-5 just the coolest looking rocket!

2. The VERY early 60's attitudes of Steve Zodiac towards Venus. ("...Venus,
how about that coffee?...")

3. Is it just me or does Lieutenant Ninety look positively smug in some
shots? (They definitely improved on the sculpting of the marionettes as the
various show went on). Venus also looks rather cheerful no matter what's
happening to her.

4. The "Lillispacians" have to be the weirdest Supermarionation creation.

It is a really enjoyable show and I wish A&E would hurry up and bring out
SUPERCAR and JOE 90!

I couldn't agree with you more, Brian, about Fireball. It is the
coolest looking ship in the universe.

How about Jocko's attitude saying that the crane operator loading
Mayflower 3 might as well be a woman? There is a womanhood redemption
later on, though, when she gains his respect.

The marionette sculpting definitely improved in subsequent series as
did the model handling. I noticed quite a few very unrealistic
spaceship sequences where XL5 was bobbing up and down.

If the Lillispacions were the "greatest brains in the universe,"
we're all in trouble.

I think one of the great treasures of the series, much like UFO, was
the music of Barry Gray. Of particular interest to me is the end
theme and credits. I found it wickedly retro.

Now, how about some of that SkyDiver coffee...
