Now if Disney did UFO - "Operating from hidden base beneath a theme park (obviously Disney Studios)" Subsmash - The plot - Ed gets stuck under the sea and just as he is halluncinating up pops the little mermaid and all the crabs and off we go into a music number. CourtMartial - Pinochio tells one too many lies The Cat With 101 Lives - Another version of that dog film Timelash - Lady & the Tramp remake. The Long Sleep - Sleeping Beauty Slipper Check A-OK - Probably Cinderella I think I best stop there! _________________________________________________________________ Surf together with new Shared Browsing http://join.msn.com/?page=features/browse&pgmarket=en-gb&XAPID=74&DI=1059 |
Oh Derek - what MINDBENDINGLY awful Disney-UFO scenarios! But there are
animation house which make cutesy musical movies out of REAL stories that I consider verboten (like the Titanic, the Russian Revolution et al - what's next: an all singing and dancing Disney flick about Buchenwald?). Can you imagine what they'd do with a show like UFO? That's scary. They'd make the aliens into these cute little green guys who don't want to take over the world - they're just "misunderstood" - and in the final scene everyone has a group hug.........oh man I gotta stop thinking in this vein.......I think I'm gonna hurl........Pam |

Pam,
I can understand your concerns over the er Mouse in question(hey they own my service provider I have to be careful) getting its hands on UFO. I can see them buying the rights ot Joe 90. Its a show about a boy using a piece of scientific equipment to make him able to care out secret missions. Every kids dream right. If Gerry Anderson hadn't beat them to it the might have done it. The problem is now The Mouse that ate Anaheim has the bad habit of buying projects they will not do justice to. They showed this when they were doing Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The title of the book it was from was originally Who Censored Roger Rabbit and it was very bawdy! The only way Ron Howard got away with nudity in Splash was because it was put out by a company with another name other than the Big D! But they still gave him grief about it. They had gotten they hands of the rights to do A Princess of Mars in the late 80's but luckily it never happen and their option on the story ran out this year. But they did make a monkey out of their version of Tarzan which is another great story by the same author. So let us hope they don't get their hands on UFO. Marc, Where exactly did you hear that Charles Bender had gotten the rights to UFO or did I misread your message? You said they were no longer available and that means someone has taken them out of play. If Bender when did this happen? And how come you haven't mentioned it before? All I had heard was he was interested? James K. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

And how come you haven't mentioned it before? All I had heard was >he was interested? Well, perhaps I'm simply reading between the lines. And actually, I got an e-mail just the other day from someone who was pursuing a remake of UFO, but was informed by Carlton that several "entities" had already expressed interest in remaking the series. So there is stuff going on behind-the-scenes... whether or not this turns into an actual TV series or film is anyone's guess. Marc |

Thanks Marc for the explaination.
Several parties interested. That's interesting. Wonder if its a result of Thunderbirds being made or if the statement by Charles Bender that he was interested in doing it got these people interested? James K. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
Hi.
I have managed to get duplicates of 4 of the Konami UFO models and wanted to offer them to the list before putting them on Ebay. That way, at least they go to good homes. I have the Interceptor, Skydiver, Sky 1 and the Mobile. They are still sealed in their individual plastic bags and have instructions and boxes (flattened) if required. I am asking £10.00 each plus shipping. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me privately. Thanks. Rob |

Also note that Fanderson has just updated their news page. At the bottom of the Disney/Joe 90 news article, it has the following statement: "and UFO (a live-action feature film currently in development in the USA)." You can read the whole article here: http://www.fanderson.org.uk/news.html Marc |

Am I missing something? I have read the the Joe 90 thing several times and it doesn't state that disney is doing UFO, only that it is one of a number of projects in one stage or another of development. Does anyone have something firm that this is a Disney project?By the by, I don't think even Disney is stupid enough to make a musical about Buchenwald, even if they have done some real dumb things over the years.

Yes James I can see why Disney COULD be interested in Joe 90 - you make all
the right points about that. If I'm reading some of the other postings correctly, the idea is that Disney got Joe 90's rights may be a mistake? One can only hope.........Pam |

Sadly Pam it seems to be true or that is what I get from the Fanderson site.
But they might just be jumping to conclusion. But I can't see Disney doing much in the way of action adventure. They haven't done anything like that in films since Davy Crockett. Hard to do a adventure without fights and where no one is ever killed and not ever really in danger. Now would someone ask Commander Straker to send Capt. Gay Ellis for me in Skydiver sub because with the more that 12 inches of rain in the last two days and more on the way I'll soon need it. James K. You're so right, James. Disney doesn't like to do death (unless it's Bambi's
mother or Old Yeller.....). UFO or even Joe 90 don't lend themselves to sentiment and they have no cute animals to die and break our hearts. (Well, I was really PO'ed about the Siamese cat getting it in the Cat With 10 Lives..........). You're getting rain? Western Canada is deluged under several feet of SNOW. That's almost as disgusting a thought at this time of year as Disney doing UFO! Pam |

Disney also owns ABC TV so maybe UFO could be a TV-movie? hmmm.. Nelson.S |

Disney used to do death, remember the Evil Queen in Snow White, and
Malificent in Sleeping Beauty? It's more of a recent thing with the non Disney Disney that is to say the one that came into being after Walt died. They there was brief period in the late 60s where they returned the censored scenes to Fantasia but now these have been removed again I'm told. Now things have to be Politically Correct and topless centarettes in a Disney animatted film wouldn't please even if they were the original concept of the artist and makers of the film. That is why I don't want this current Disney anywhere near a UFO film or TV series no matter which branch it might be. Snow, Pam. Okay, we have had all this rain, plus tornados, hail the size of your fist, and oh yes let us not forget the earthquake we had last week. You think perhaps the aliens have tied of throwing humanoid and animal enemies at us and now have a way to use the weather against us? James K. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

It sounds silly, but I have seen other good stories made silly that sort of way by Disney. We don't need that sort of thing. |
