Re: Stuart Myers -- Alien or not?

Hi All,

I asked Chris Bentley (author of "The Complete Guide to Gerry Anderson's UFO") about
the Gito Santana/Stuart Myers situation, and here is his reply:

------
Hi Marc,

It seems that Gito has met with Stuart Myers and has been able to establish
that Myers only signed the UFO Alien cards because his friend Darren Epstein
(managing director of Cards Inc) asked him to and paid him to do it.

Myers apparently has no recollection of working on UFO, does not recall what
it was about, does not know where it was filmed, nor remembers ever wearing
an Alien costume. By his own admission he is a jobbing actor who mainly
appears in things as an 'extra', yet Equity, the British actors' union, has
no record of him. I gather that he told Gito that Darren Epstein had said to
him that no one (ie, buyers of the card) would question whether it was
really Myers in the Alien costume or not, since it was impossible to see the
real actor's face and there was no record of who it really was.

Following on the heels of Cards Inc's other frauds with the costume cards -
cuttings of material that they claim are genuine pieces of costumes worn by
Ed Bishop, Martin Landau, Roger Moore and Patrick McGoohan, but are actually
no such thing - I am quite prepared to believe that Darren Epstein and his
company would deliberately perpetrate this additional fraud with the
autograph cards. Trading cards are clearly a very lucrative business for
them (the company turned over 20 million pounds - about 36 million dollars -
last year) and they seem to be quite prepared to do anything to squeeze any
extra cash from gullible fans.

Gito tells me the matter is now in the hands of Equity who will, on Gito's
behalf, be taking legal action against Cards Inc over the Alien card.

Kind regards,
Chris

Thanks for the 'heads up' Marc. I almost bought one of those bogus costumecards to see the fabric up close.

A BIT off topic, but reading this makes me happy I haven't bought one of the Ed Bishop /Straker costume cards yet. Kind of depressing, actually. I really wanted one of those. It seems Cards Inc. has quite a history of deception.
Glad to hear that things may be working out for Gito, though. Hope he takes 'em to the cleaners!

It MAY still be the exact same type of fabric, just not worn by Ed Bishop (of course I'm assuming you wanted a close up look to find matching fabric for your figures).
