Re: Trying to find webspace

Rowland Dicker
Hello all

Rowland here, from Devon, UK. I’ve been lurking for a while. I watched UFO
as a kid and I’ve waited for it to be repeated. I love this show. Forget the
detail and the technical stuff, the premise was excellent and Ed Bishop the
top man.

BBC2’s re-run a year or two ago was an absolute shambles! Anyway, just
thought I’d say hi, and also offer the following links for those looking for
extra space – I haven’t checked these places out and read their terms etc,
though.

This appears to be for 100Mb storage space F.O.C.
http://www.xdrive.com/promo/getxdrive

alternatively here’s 500Mb
http://www.zden.com/

Regards

Rowland Dicker

PS: I loved Space: Above and Beyond too – anyone else?

What has happened to UFO in this case, Rob? I remember in Austria
when "The X-Files" was aired for the first time they cancelled some
episodes immediatly for any sport event. At the same time the show
was a huge sucess in Germany. After the third season the Austrian
Broadcast cancelled it at all. :-(

Yep - Hi from me too Rowland and I agree about the premise. It's
a stunning idea and it still gives me a buzz after all these years!

Yes - to be fair though they only ever put it on as something
'disposable' that they could cancel for the tennis without causing
too much irritation (among most of the general viewing public
anyway).

BBC2 *did* give UFO a reasonable go back in the early '90s (92 or
so?) but last year's rerun was strictly half-hearted, just used as
filler.

When you compare with the treatment Thunderbirds has had - lots of
publicity, lots of Gerry Anderson interviews, front cover of the
Radio Times, remastered and simultaneous release on DVD it seems a
bit unfair doesn't it? But Gerry Anderson will be remembered by
most for Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and Stingray, not UFO,
sadly, so I'm afraid it's to be expected.

I well remember being frustrated in the '70s by waiting for UFO to
be shown again on TV, but happily we live in an age now where we
can watch episodes at home without the assistance of the TV
broadcasters, so thankfully we don't really need to care.

Cheers
James

I haven't seen the BBC broadcasts or the DE tapes, but I got the
impression from various comments that the quality of the BBC
broadcasts were superior to the quality of the DE tapes?

Also, I believe that the BBC had every UFO episode remastered except
for COMPUTER AFFAIR. I don't know if these will be the source for
for the Carlton/A&E videos, or if they will be remastered yet again.

Yes, please do! Never liked that uswest.net account anyway...

Not really. One gets 35 MB initially, and one has to sign up for some
rubbishy spam email services else it's only 25 I think (can't remember
exactly now). One can make it 100 MB by getting other people to sign up
with their services

Of course, undersigned can never refuse a free offer, so I tried it out a
couple of weeks ago. Uploaded a MP3 file and it got stuck half-way, haven't
bothered to try again. Planned to test it, but my computer was kaput again.
More hardware problems... Sigh.
While I was uploading I noticed it said that the file would be there for 2
weeks - not sure what happens to it afterwards?
One has two directories when one signs up with X-Drive, the one is marked
private, the other public. From what they say, the main idea is to store
stuff up there that one wants to be able to get at from anywhere, or stuff
one would prefer not to have on one's computer. Like the gains from one's
illegal proceeds perhaps? Perhaps they have the tax man check their files
and get paid for it - or they hope to cut in on the criminal world (IF they
were stupid enough to put illegal stuff up there :-)

Now that I'll have to check out! Thanks for the link!
