What a shame that Kubrick destroyed all the sets from 2001! Why? Does anyone
know if any sets or props survived from UFO? I saw the Moonbase station for
Lt. Ellis re-used in (you're not gonna believe this!) an episode of Jim
Henson's "The Muppet Show" back in the early 1980's I think. I recognized it
immediately as being the centre console from the main Moonbase sphere - and
then I realized "The Muppets" were part of the ITC system. No, it wasn't
used for the "Pigs in Space" sequence it was used for one of their guest
stars who was singing - can't remember who now. Am I nutz or does anyone
else remember this?

Yes they did, some of them turned up in Doctor Who in the
Seventies!

I guess Kubrick had the 2001 stuff destroyed to protect the
unique visual look and feel of 2001.

It's really too bad Kubrick KO'ed the 2001 sets - just think what they'd be
worth on the collectors' market today or for a s-f museum showcase. I didn't
watch Dr. Who much so didn't see the UFO set pieces - altho I did watch the
M4TV movie of Dr. Who a couple yrs ago - I don't think it was indicative of
the original which garnered so much fandom and attention.

I know this is OT, but one of the Dr. Who actors - Tom ? - played Rasputin
in the hist-doc "Nicholas and Alexandra" (from Robert Massie's book) and did
a sensational job!
