SHADO 8th Year Anniversary!

Hi all,

Just wanted to mention that I started this mailing list on 24 August 1994,
so this is our 8 year anniversary! Hard to believe that we've been able
to maintain a UFO discussion group that long!

Originally this list was called "FAB-UFO", and over the years it's had to
move servers a couple of times. We've been here on Yahoo Groups since 2000.

Happy anniversary to us!

Hello out there!

My name is Sashi German and I have just joined this List. I'm hailing from
Philadelphia, PA (USA) where I see UFO once a week on the Sci-Fi cable
channel (badly edited I'm told).

Someone on the Space:1999 mailist gave this List address out and I'm glad I
found it. I have become a big fan of UFO since catching it for the
first time a few
months back. I only wish this show had gone past 1 season!

Mighty congrats Marc.

One of the wonders of the web, is the capacity to bring like minded people
together, and share their knowledge, experiences and materials.

Here's to the next 8 years... 2010 ouch! I wonder what UFO would have looked
like if Gerry had made the series now, and set it in 2010? Imagine what Derek
Meddings could have done with current computer graphics special effects... the
mind boggles!

Having asked myself that question, I wonder how the original story would have
developed had it really taken off into a multitude of series - made in '69-70...
set in the '80's... I wonder if the aliens would have given up by now...
conquered the earth... made peace with Earths authorities... agreed on a
technology exchange program... might SHADO have become public information...
might it even be redundant.... maybe the aliens became a major customer to the
cloning business... exchanged technologies... would Straker still be in
charge... would Straker and Ellis have finally become an item...
Harlington-Straker Film Studios bought out by Hollywood... so many possibilities
...one can but dream...

Happy Anniversary Marc. I have only found site about a year ago. Long time
UFO fan (1971) Enjoyed the show since way back, love the items I have

Congratulations form SHADO New Hampshire!!!!!!!!! The list has lasted 8
times longer than the show:) Without a doubt UFO was a very good show.
Let us hope that A&E here in the states gets the second DVD set out
before we get to celebrate the 16th anniversary of the list!

Congratulations, Marc, and thanks for all your hard work over the years!
The eight year tenure of this discussion group is very heatening, as it
loudly demonstrates the UFO is a sophisticated television series with many
rich layers; the sustained interest of this group indicates that this is
more than simple nostalgia on our part.

I wonder if the Space:1999 and FAB-L lists have continued to this day, and
if their traffic is as heavy as that of this discussion group?

The Space:1999 list has always been more active than this list,
although it has to more closely moderated because they always seem to
picking on each other... :-/

As for FAB-L, that list seems to have died when the old listservers
went down, and it doesn't appear that any list really took its place.
At least, I'm not aware of any *active* Gerry Anderson discussion
groups... (?)

Well, I'm not sure how many people have actually been on this
list for the whole 8 years... not very many, I suspect...

The list has actually grown substantially since we've moved
to Yahoo. Prior to the move, the membership was in the 150-200
range. On my latest check, we're over 400! (I suspect the DVD
releases have led many people to do a search on UFO and discover
us)

The YahooGroups page for SHADO claims that we've got 408 members.
It's hard to say how many of these people are actually *reading*
the messages. After all, I'm subscribed to a few groups which
I hardly ever read...
