SHADO-USECC closing down?

Hi all,

I just received the latest SHADO-USECC UFO fan club
newsletter. Apparently the number of contributions
& members has declined to the point where Helen
Weber is now planning on shutting down the club unless
convinced otherwise. This is rather sad, although
I must admit that I also recommended shutting it down,
as I seem to be providing most of the contributions
in the past few years, but am finding it more &
more difficult to support a UFO website, mailing list,
*and* a quarterly newsletter.

I take it that many of the folks here probably
don't care either way, since you are probably
not a member of SHADO-USECC and are happy with
UFO fandom via the Internet & this mailing list?
Still, it's a bit sad to see the last remaining
UFO fan club left close down...

Some of us care a lot Marc. But like you say it hard to run a fan club where
the members don' t take part and contribute. I came here because I got told
early about this like you and had to find a place with UFO fans.
It is extremely sad to lose SHADO-USECC not just because it was the
longest running UFO fan club but because it had combined all the things we
look for, News about the series and stars, information on the series and
coming cons, fan fictions, debates and discussions, fan art. I 'm sure many
say well we can get that here for free. Perhaps, but not all and even if you
don' t miss those things or want to find them on other websites you still
have lost something of value for nothing in life is ever free.

SHADO-USECC postal address:

Helen Weber
514 Delaware Ave
Lansdale, PA 19446
USA

It doesn't have a WWW address, but I do have a page on my UFO
Series Home Page about SHADO-USECC:

http://ufoseries.com/shado-usecc.html

And the e-mail address of "commander" Helen Weber is:

Marc-
I got the newsletter this week also. While not a longtime member of the
club, I had no real intention of resubscribing next year, as it seems
that most of what is in the newsletter comes from your site or this
list. I am not at all interested in the fan fiction aspect (just don't
care for it, no flames please), and I felt that for what I paid to be a
member of SHADO USECC I wasn't getting much value.
Helen is a really nice person and I am not trying to "diss" her or the
club, it just seems like I am more in touch with what is happening via
this list and your site as well as a few others.

Yes, that's true. In the "old days" (before my UFO website existed),
the articles I wrote in the SHADO-USECC newsletter were unique.
These days, there's a lot of duplication between what's on the Internet
and what's in the newsletter. Also unfortunately, with my limited time,
my website suffers because of all the time I spend on the newsletter.
In fact, in the past year, I think I've spent more time on the newsletter
than on my website!
