SID

Model's aren't my thing but I wonder if you are having trouble seeing the
tree through the forest. LOL. In the Man who came back, Collins and Straker
went to repair SID in a Saturn type rocket. Why do you think an intercepter
would need to dock with SID at all? Or the lunar lander? If it was that
simple why go to NASA for a rocket?. not a critisim. Just an observation.
Lyn.

I wondered that as well when I watched MAN WHO CAME BACK. Why they weren't able to use an LM to go there. Maybe they needed specialist equipment you couldn't fit on an LM?

SID could possibly be used as an emergency life raft for an
interceptor pilot? Straker says they have satellites, are there more
SID's but dumb versions with him as the focal point? Perhaps they
look the same and could be used as life rafts as well? The lunar
lander may not be capable of fine orbital manoeuvres in Earth's
gravity well to get to SID. We've only seen it perform this in Moon
orbit with a small load. SID may not be listed as a military
satellite and therefore had to be seen to be repaired with civilian
means eg NASA.

Barry

you know they only referred to one SID in the series. Straker was always
trying to get more money from that major guy. Maybe SID used the visual and
scanners from the other satellites(sp) and that was why there was only one. scott

I can't remember where the idea of an interceptor docking with
SID comes from, but it's a familiar one. Was a docked
interceptor ever portrayed in one of the Countrown comic strips?

Yes, I vaguely remember that storyline. There was also a great story, where
SHADO was testing a new Interceptor (which kept mysteriously crashing)

One parallel I suppose is from Thunderbirds, when TB3 docks with TB5 (in
that case for a crew change - Alan took over from John if I remember
correctly). Maybe Gerry and Sylvia had this in mind when they asked
Derek/Mike to design SID/SHADO Interceptor?
