Hi!!!!
I'm Marco Raffa from Isoshado Dear Marc, we've read your message 8 on Digest 227 === People, *please* don't e-mail Sparta about this -- first of all, Sparta is a bank, and is not going to know anything about this, because it is the project of an individual, not the bank. And secondly, you're not going to get any more up-to-date and accurate information than you are right here... ...unless of course people abuse this information by bothering the people working on the projects. That is specifically the reason I have not revealed who is working on the second project... (and obviously should have done the same for the first one) ==== Ed Bishop referred us about the UFO 2 project from Sparta, past December few days before Christmas, during a nice dinner. We asked Ed if would be useful for the project to put this BIG news on our Isoshado Website and on a couple of mailing lists. We were considering the eventual problem that maybe this was giving to the project's developet. Ed's replay has been: "No, I'm sure that there are no problems and perhaps the enthusiasm of worldwide UFO fans can be a push to convince people of SPARTA to go on on this way". This has been the only and unique reasons since we have put this news on the Web. Sincerely, Marco Raffa Isoshado Webmaster |
Hi all,
Iam a little confused. Should we contact sparta to show our enthusiasm for the project?I understand that this is a bank and one of the executives is behind the new UFO project? Is this correct? Cheers :0) Rich |

Yes, one of the executives at this bank is behind a new UFO project -- however, at this point you should not be contacting anyone. Especially the bank, which isn't involved with the project at all... -- Marc Martin, [hidden email] |

Thanks for your reply Mark.
What can we do to show our support for the project? Cheers :0) Rich Yes, one of the executives at this bank is behind a new UFO project -- however, at this point you should not be contacting anyone. >What can we do to show our support for the project? In this case, there is really no need to show support for this project. This is not a case where there is some indifferent executive who needs convincing. Instead, it is a wealthy man who was a fan of UFO as a kid, and wants to use his wealth to make a new movie. He doesn't need convincing. He's got the money, and it seems he's also got the initiative & and the copyright holder's support. So at the moment, he doesn't need our help. And if that changes, I'll let you know... :-) Actually, as nice as it would be to have a new movie based on UFO, I really think that there's no way to recapture the "magic" of the original series, and to me it would seem that if you were a fan of the original series with lots and lots of money, he best way to spend that money would be to finance a top-notch video release of the original series on DVD. I realize that Carlton and A&E will most likely release UFO on DVD in 2002, but if they follow their current trend, these videos will merely be "pretty good", with good quality video, mediocre quality sound, poor packaging, and a bare minimum of extras. At least, that pretty much describes the ITC DVD's I've seen so far from Carlton & A&E, including the new A&E SPACE:1999 DVDs. With the help of one rich fan, a UFO DVD release could be truly spectacular -- you could have THX do the video & audio remastering, and for once try and use the original magnetic soundtrack elements instead of the much lower quality optical elements. Also, you could add separate soundtracks for foreign languages (it seems that UFO was dubbed into several languages at the time). Also, a separate music or music/effects track would be a welcome addition. And for extras, you could include Fanderson's "UFO Documentary", plus any other interviews that Ed Bishop, etc. may have done about the series on UK television. You could even record some actor/director commentary for each episode. And the packaging could include a nice multi-page booklet loaded with photos, instead of single sheet. And you could probably find hundreds of publicity & behind the scenes photos to step through on the DVDs. Heck, maybe you could even find a few advertisements, commercial breaks, outtakes, etc. Or photos of UFO merchandise sold around the world. Or transcripts of the original scripts you could step through. Plus the original pre-production artwork which has been shown at Fanderson conventions. As you can see, there is no real limit to what you *could* do, but there's no way that Carlton or A&E are going to do this from a business standpoint -- there's just not enough people in the world willing to buy UFO on DVD! However, if some rich German banker is paying all the bills, then I'm sure they'd be happy to do this. And it's be a heck of a lot cheaper than making a new movie! Ah well, it's nice to dream... now back to real world, watching A&E's new "no-frills" SPACE:1999 DVD's... -- Marc Martin, [hidden email] |

I also fear that the "magic" will be gone. But maybe it will work when they do it like "Star Trek - The next generation"? Who knows...? And yes, you're right: UFO isn't "Star Trek" or "The X-Files". We all are die-hard fans but - and that's a fact: too less. At least from a business point of view. We don't bring enough money (and they have to make money out of this just for their own surviving - or they become bankrupt!). But who knows what the future will bring? I'm dreaming with you, Marc! :-) CU Christian |
