SURVIVAL: Moonbase security.

It is a bit thick, just taking a potshot at a window, instead of using
explosives, etc.

I couldn`t undestand why Moonbase wasn`t
built underground, like SHADO HQ. At the very least, it would have been
protected by the moonrock from alien attack, as well as natural accidents,
eg. meteorites, etc. The interceptor
maintenance hangers are already built underground, so the technology and
facilities surely existed; it would have
made economic and militaristic sense to build underground.

I'm not sure about the economic argument. Imagine the cost
of building underground on the moon! I imagine that the existing
design could have been built on Earth then simply bolted together
on the Moon's surface. Whereas to build underground, the
building workers would have to wear spacesuits to work and be
supplied with oxygen. I appreciate that the interceptor hangars
are built underground, but I don't think that would have happened
in 'real life'. As we've discussed before there doesn't seem to
be a practical way for the astronaut to get into the interceptor
unless the hangar is pressurised, in which case millions of
litres of air would be lost every time an interceptor is
launched.

Good points.... but this is
TV, and they need some cool

looking base to show in their scenes. It would have been rather

boring to have them open up the moonbase scenes with the camera

just showing the plowed empty lunar surface above the base....

cheers, Dave H.
