Hi all,
We had a good discussion going about our current episode up for discussion, SURVIVAL, but then it faded away. Anyone got any more comments about SURVIVAL? We've still got a week left if you do! Marc |

Was anyone else upset like myself at the ending? It really bothered me--asa
kid-- that the alien got shot without a chance. As an adult, it still bothers me that it just ends! What an opportunity for Foster argue philosophy with Straker over his decisions to kill rather than communicate with the aliens. That could have been a whole other episode with Foster displaying some of that stubornness he had. It's like a bad inding to a book that you just can't get past because the book is so good... Mary |

In a sense, yes - I find it really disturbing, and I remember being upset myself when I watched it for the first time. But that's what makes it so effective .. |

This was one of the episodes that I've only seen thanks to the DVD set. I had read the Robert Miall novelization some time ago. I did get a good laugh when Foster falls against the rock and it shakes. Overall, a really cool episode. No more neat and happy endings ala' Thunderbirds, even if some of the music was the same. Similary, back in 1984 critics were impressed with Miama Vice because the heroes did not always win. It was seen as a touch of realism over the likes of Magnum PI. But remember -- UFO had it first! <w> Jeff Kuzma |

But remember -- UFO had it > first! > Captain Scarlet had it before that! I well remember one bank holiday, in the late '60s in England. I had spent most of the day sunbathing and kicking a football around in the garden with my parents and brother, but I went into the house to watch Captain Scarlet. When I rejoined my family in the garden, my mum asked me if had enjoyed the programme, and I replied "yes, but the Mysterons won this time". She thought I was pulling her leg and flatly refused to believe it! |

I watched it the summer before I turned five years old, and the concepts were way above my understanding at the time; I spent then next ten years wondering just who Scarlet was actually fighting.
