Wondered what bits of UFO people who saw it initially as children
found most scary. I recall the remoteness of the houses in episodes such as The Square Triangle and ESP and to be unbearable tense and I could never understand why people would want to live so far from neighbours! After all, it seemed to just invite Aliens to come calling. I always thought Gerry Anderson's various productions including Thunderbirds and Joe 90 built up the tension in the basis of such lonely dwellings very well. The long winding tree-lined roads and the very spooky brief glimpses of UFO's in the canopy. As a child I just couldn't bear it!!! David |
I guess I wasn't a "child" per se when UFO arrived on
my horizen .. I was 17/18 and i loved the isolated places. Mind you, the yard around my house was filled with plants: weeping willows, cannas, banana trees and a six foot woven "redwood" fence, so we were kinda on the isolated side even in the 'burbs. I think I found the human-looking aliens with the unknown and apparently unknowable desire for replacement organs, and Straker's completely ruthless attitudes about as scary as anything. (we won't mention wanting to take a 2x4 to General Henderson occasionally -- *chuckle*) but then, as i said, i was a little older and i was completely space happy -- and sci-fi happy. dragon --- pointy100 <[hidden email]> wrote: > Wondered what bits of UFO people who saw it > initially as children > found most scary. I was about 6 when I first caught UFO. For me it was the relentless
noise of the UFO's. Still sends a bit of a shiver down my spine today |

I guess the scariest moment for me was the episode with the blind lady. I don't have my UFO episode guide with me. I was sooooo afraid he was going to kill her or eat her bird. Aliens are after all alien and the bird might have been a delicacy. I also wonder if the Alien would have harvested her organs if she had been younger.

That was too tense for 8 years old in 1975. Also, that was the last of 17 episodes shown in then-Yugoslavia, with "Destruction" being showed twice instead of one other episode with which they "technical problems"... Even though I never saw UFO when I was a child, I'm going to answer
this question. The part that scared me was in "Ordeal" when the aliens put the space helmet on Paul Foster and filled it with that green liquid. I thought he was going to drown. ~Jeanster |

Jeanster, the funny thing about that is James Cameron copied it for Abyss. LOL. Just kidding. I have no idea if he copied it or if he used knowledge from his brother who is in naval research. I knew as an adult he would be ok because I had seen the same thing on Abyss.

was definitely the aliens who gave me the creeps...I would've been about 11 years old, easily creeped out and these guys with the green liquid in their helmets, who were eerily quiet and never spoke, and just had the soulless stare, had me sleeping with the lights on a FEW nights!...but still they had the cool spacecraft, which redeemed them a little bit for me...

I agree, Mark! I was a "tween" (very young teen) when I first watched UFO, and the aliens and their silence stayed with me long after the show was over for the night. And since we saw UFO in our town at 10:30pm on Saturday nights, you can believe I didn't get a lot of sleep on the weekends! Yours, Denise

Hi, interestingly Gito Santana (the alien) said in his recent fanderson
interview that he had on occasion become scared when seeing himself as the alien on film :) Lorraine Denise Felt wrote: > --- In [hidden email], mark turner <markman2112@y...> wrote: > > was definitely the aliens who gave me the creeps... these guys who > were eerily quiet and never spoke, and just had the soulless stare, had > me sleeping with the lights on a FEW nights! > > I agree, Mark! > I was a "tween" (very young teen) when I first watched UFO, and the > aliens and their silence stayed with me long after the show was over > for the night. Gito,
I don't know if I can think of you as a "friendly" alien, but to me your face will always be the image that comes to mind whenever I hear the word "alien." Even after years of watching and rewatching the "Alien" quadrilogy. Go figure. I guess what we learn as kids really does stay with us, doesn't it?
