Stereo Music vs. Episode Surround Sound?

Okay, it's apparent that some people here would prefer their UFO
soundtracks with new stereo mixes, while others would prefer the
original mono mix.

This got me thinking about the DVD releases of UFO. As many of you know,
some of the Gerry Anderson series were released with new "stereo
surround" soundtracks. For example, Thunderbirds got a full blown 5.1
surround treatment, which was noticeably different than the original
soundtrack. However, in the case of UFO, only the original mono track
was offered.

Similar to the music CDs, various fans had strong preferences for their
UFO DVDs -- some wanted them remixed into 5.1 surround sound, while
others wanted the original mono sound. I'm curious -- are the folks who
wanted the 5.1 surround sound for their UFO DVDs the same people who
wanted a stereo music CD? And are the people who wanted their DVDs to
retain the original mono episode soundtrack the same people who would
prefer a soundtrack CD to be in the original mono music?

I think I can say that I would prefer things as they originally were produced
be it mono/stereo/color/black & white. How about old TV series where early
seasons are in b/w and latter ones are in color...do these newfangled
proponents argue that we go back and colorize the early seasons? Eeeks!

If it ends up looking more like reality than the black & white
versions - why not?

It's not often you come across grey people living in attractive
monocrhome towns in real life.
