In some ways Steven Berkoff is now better known as a (theatre) director rather than an actor. He is very well known here in the UK and usually plays protagonists, villains etc. (I know he is quoted as saying they are more fun and a challenge to portray).
In rehearsals he had TOTAL control and attention of the cast, crew and staff, very tough to impress, and very tough on the cast and crew.
My wife and I met him and his partner at an after show party, and his persona certainly filled the place (a VERY strong presence, and his eyes drilled down into ones very soul) ... I mean this in a nice way, but he I can understand many people being nervous or even scared of him (Brian May).
My wife said to me afterwards, "Jeez, I'm glad he's on our side!"
